Yesterday my BF drove 50-miles (one way!) to try a GROUPON offering---one hour at half-price at Treys TRAMPOLINE gym!
Now mind you--I am 56, but I do jog/jumprope/gym work-out at least 4/5 times/wk...so he knew I'd be "up for it"!
But OMG--what an incredible and incredibly FUN work-out!
It was a basketball sized floor made of trampoline material (*like Urban Rebounder) and I just stepped on and started jumping gently (at first!). A big smile was on my face--it could not be helped--I felt like a kid jumping on a bed!
The actual jumping is low-impact..and whatever energy you expend into the jump is given back to you..so the harder you jump the higher you go!
Anyway--I was able to do mid-air "crunches" and also land on my knees and then hop up to my feet...hard to describe but awesome! I was sweating like crazy and actually getting winded--which is rare for me. Total body low-impact work-out--and a BLAST! BTW--We paid for an hour and I didn't finish it! You can stop and rest at any time too.
When we got there they had just opened and there was just a few people. After I was totally exhausted (45.-mins.) we left just as a bunch of kids were coming in!
BTW--the Gym had various sections for basketball/dodge-ball/ free-style/kid-zone/etc/)
If anyone is lucky enough to have one nearby--give it a try. Don't worry about feeling/looking stupid--you will love it!
As for your kids--OMG--what a fun way to incorporate exercise into their day but they will just have a blast--and get worn out and be more than ready for bath/bed!!

That sounds like a blast! I don't know if I could do the mid-air crunches, but it would be fun to try. I'm going to check around to see if there's a trampoline gym nearby.

That sounds TOO fun!
I wish I had something like this near me, I'd go in a heartbeat!

It sounds fun but I don't think it's low-impact, my knees hurt just thinking about it. I wish I could try!

I don't think my knees could take it. Though it sounds like a lot of fun, you lost me with "a bunch of kids were coming in". Okay, I'm not a grouch, and I do like kids. But I'm much much too old and sore to be sharing a trampoline with them - I've seen them in those jump houses bouncing all over the place and in to each other...
It might be a lot of fun to try if, and only IF, there was an 'adults only' time where I knew I'd be relatively 'safe' to jump as timidly as my joints could handle. A time to play with people my own age without worrying about being pounced upon, or jolted by the high jumps of those 40 (plus) years younger than I am!
It's nothing against kids - it's more about my failing body and its inability to keep up with the little ones. I can't swim in a pool with lots of kids either. Last time I did, I got bruised by a kid doing a cannonball. I guess I didn't get out of the way fast enough. It was my fault he landed on me, afterall..I should have looked where he was jumping.
This old body can't take it!

Heights make me dizzy........

Thanks for the replies!
First off--there are several spaces/rooms for Kids Only--plus I don't know if there's an ""adults only"" time set aside..I didn't look and each place is different...
Plus--you only jump as high as you want..from just a few inches to a few feet! You can get a great workout by just jogging in place w/low-impact.
Depending on the time you go--I'm sure you could pick a time where it's nearly empty. plus they have staff there to monitor the different areas and help w/instructions..although it's simple to figure out.
I loved it for the CARDIO benefits and the low-impact benefits and the FUN FACTOR!
I do not care that my chrono-age is 56--I feel/felt 20-years younger! Isn't it great that as we age that we don't care as much what other people think about our looks/actions??
I urge any young-at-heart BOOMERS (and anyone else) to check Google for TRAMPOLINE gyms--if there's one even remotely w/in driving distance..GO!
Possibly call the gym and ask them what the best time would be for the fewest people and adults.
As I said--I went when it first opened and I was alone basically for a half-hour until a few kids came in!
Another great thing--even though I have been running/etc. for years--I became winded after a half-hour! It really does give a great cardio and depending on how much you swing/raise your arms--a good upper body workout too!
Two days later I felt a slight ache in my upper-legs....due to the knee-jumps I assume...but no other affects.
Anyway--as Mikey's friend said==""Try It--You'll like it""!
