Yesterday my son phoned and I asked him about a drink to replace my Starbuck's Pumpkin Spice Latte since the season they serve them has ended. He suggested a latte with Brown Sugar syrup.

Although I had to give up coffee because of my acid reflux, I discovered I can treat myself once or twice a month to a latte without any real problems. When I got to the window to order I was so busy with Venti latte, whole milk, brown sugar syrup that I forgot to say Decaf. Oops!

I am wired for sound. I am usually exhausted this time of day because of my fatiguing issues. Not today! I had to force myself to sit down because I know I am overdoing. Anyone who doubts the strength of caffeine as a stimulant needs to go six months without coffee, soft drinks, or chocolate. (I said six months because I made the same mistake when Pumpkin Spice became available in late summer.) Then order a Venti latte and note the difference in energy level. It is remarkable.

I'm pretty sure that I'm immune to caffeine, nothing keeps me awake. 😺

I put 10 grams of 100% pure matcha powder in my green drink every morning. The caffeine in matcha is slow released so you don't get a caffeine crash like you can with coffee or tea. Matcha is a superfood and has many health benefits.

@SilleeMee I am not familiar with matcha powder. Is it sold in health food stores?

@On It

It probably is sold in health food stores but I never have gone to any here. I usually buy mine from a local Asian market here and also from Amazon. I buy the 'culinary grade'. The 'ceremonial grade' has become so expensive I can no longer afford that but I prefer it over the other b/c it is smoother tasting, less bitter.

@On It @I also have severe fatigue issues and reflux. I had given up coffee. What I'm doing now that works is to put Nescafe Columbiano into 16 ounces of whole milk, no water.  This has really made a difference in my stomach distress. The fatigue continues.

@SilleeMee

I once had the most fabulous green tea in a SF restaurant that fully restored me for an afternoon at work yet did not jolt me as a coffee would.

It felt like an effortless way to exist.

It wasn't matcha but your post reminded I should look into incorporating matcha into my green tea rotation.

Yes, I know, @SilleeMee  I've been aware for decades.

That's why I referenced it.

Oh yes, @On It - I used to plow through a 12 cup pot of coffee on a daily basis (my current doctor was horrified).

Lately I find I have no desire for that, and it would in fact be very uncomfortable.  I do drink a cup (12 oz) or two in the morning but I know better than to have any more, as I find I can get really agitated, in a bad mood kind of way.

How I did that whole pot thing is beyond me.  One year when the doc read back my chart to me from a previous exam, where I'd owned up to "12 cups", my jaw dropped.

I have a cute little single cup brew through that makes great coffee and I'm much calmer and more joyful to start the day!
