Do they require licenses? What degree of training? Anyone know? I am just curious about this.
Going to Walgreen's tomorrow for flu vaccine. My HMO is not giving it this year in my area, so my Dr. told me to go to Walgreen's pharmacy. Had to make an appointment.
Already had booster three weeks ago.

I went to a mass site for my Covid vaccine and it was given to me by a nurse. It is my understanding all of them were nurses or EMTs at the site.
My DH got his Covid vaccine at a pharmacy and the pharmacist gave it to him.
I don't know what the requirements are at all pharmacies but I know at my local Meijer, only the registered pharmacist is allowed to administer vaccines.

@BirkiLady wrote:@gardenman You don't really know about various injections! I, too, have given myself FORTEO. It goes into fatty tissue.
However, COVID and flu shots both must be given into muscle. If you were giving shots, you'd be setting yourself up for massive lawsuits. Be very careful what you say without full knowledge.
@BirkiLady , I believe the point @gardenman was making was that you don't need to go to college and get a degree to administer vaccines. People can be properly trained in a relatively short amount of time, to give a vaccine or other shot.
I had to give my mother shots to keep her white blood cell count up for chemo and I was "trained" in about 10 minutes. Diabetics are taught how to give themselves a shot in a very short period of time.

When my hubby went it was a mass site and a nurse gave him both shots. I believe same for his booster.
I went to the same site and had both shots by military guys.
The pharmacist is giving them for the booster.

@Lipstickdiva I've also given myself shots for diabetes and FORTEO, but I would never give a shot to someone else! I don't consider myself qualified even though I've been injecting myself for decades.
Various shots require various sites (muscle mass vs. fat tissue) as I have previously mentioned. I'm sure there are other variables for others that I have no idea about. Then, there are the possible reactions which do occur. Nope, it takes a professional to administer any shot to another person . . . especially in the public sector.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this topic. I'm not budging on my thinking!

I got my first two Covid shots at the mass vacination site on the Microsoft campus given by nurses.
I usually get my vaccines at Costco and they are administered by the pharmacist. I was there today to get my booster.
