I always thought that, by the time I was 10 years into menopause, I would no longer have hot flashes. Not So! For the time being, because I already take so many medications, I have chosen not to take anything additional to reduce or eliminate hot flashes. For me, I seem to go into "phases" where I can go for months without symptoms and then will go into a phase where the flashes return for a considerable amount of time. I can usually put up with this nuisance during the daytime hours but the worst time is during the night because it interrupts my sleep. My gynecololgist told me that I most likely will have these symptoms forever and is very willing to give me something to lessen the effects but I just don't want to add to my med load if I don't have to. Since I am also hypothyroid and hot flashes can also be a symptom of this disease, I am constantly juggling the dosage of these meds (under my docs approval) to find the perfect level. It certainly is very frustrating and I am wondering if anyone has had good results with just their diet or changing their lifestyle in some way? Thanks so much!
