Anyone have a recommendation on where to buy a wheelchair online?  I'm looking for a manual wheelchair.

I used 1800wheelchair.com and was satisfied with both the product and customer service. However, that was a number of years ago - around 2010 - so I don't know how they are currently.

Wheelchairs are considered medical equipment and are covered by medical insurance.  You need a doctor's script to get one.

There are many durable medical equipment suppliers out there who can provide one. Also, you can find pre-owned chairs in local classifieds.  They can also be rented and after a certain amount of time, you would own the chair.

Google Durable Medical Equiptment  and you will see many providers where you can purchase a chair.

I purchased a manual one on Amazon.  Mine is a little narrower, so it fits through my doorways and it is light enough for me to lift and place into my car.  The price was very reasonable as well.  My husband, only, needs it when we leave the house, he is able to manage without it in the house.  I used it when we flew up to Baltimore and it went onto the plane with us.  It is very easy to use.  The heavier wheelchairs I cannot manage because of their weight.

Wheelchairs are durable medical equipment and covered by health insurance.  Also, there's no generic wheelchair now.  You don't just buy a wheelchair.  They are fitted for the patient's size, weight, strength, special needs.  You should get the prescription for the doctor and go to a medical supply store for professional assistance.  They will handle the authorization and the billing and you will only be responsible for any deductibles or co-insurance.

Try Walgreens.  These are transporting wheelchairs and are not made to a person's specifications.

@Snoopp, check your local medical supply places and see if there's one you can rent or buy.  Or ask the doctor's office about it.  I'd think in your area, there would be some place you could get one locally.  Hope so.
