The statement is from the well known veterinarian, Dr. Karen Becker. Yes, it pertains to pet supplements, but it shows the character of the company and by inference, it would include human supplements division as well.
I’m Karen Becker. I am a veterinarian and practice proactive veterinary medicine to identify and remove high-risk lifestyle factors that prevent animals from living long and healthy lives. I do what I do because I love animals and want to help fellow pet parents do all they can to create exceptional health for their animals. When we know more, we can do better.
In 1999, I established the first proactive animal hospital in the Midwest, opened an exotic animal clinic in 2006, and a small animal rehab and pain management clinic in 2011. Like humans, pets deserve to have access to health care that focuses on creating or restoring well-being in a supportive environment. I am passionate about doing everything I can to make people more aware of what they can do to improve life on this planet for animals.
In 2009, I was hired by Dr. Joseph Mercola and his CEO for Mercola.com to formulate a product line of human-grade pet supplements and write educational health and wellness articles for the new online platform on Mercola.com, which I helped to create – called Mercola Healthy Pets – that is now known as Bark & Whiskers.
This online platform quickly became one of the largest pet health websites in the world. I distinctly remember feeling such overwhelming gratitude for the opportunity because I now had a way to communicate with people worldwide to advance my mission for animals. I reached millions with my message to intentionally create vibrant health for pets by empowering guardians to make wise lifestyle choices for them.
Dr. Mercola and I were synergistically aligned because the mission of Mercola.com encouraged people to take control of their health. I knew he had made firm philanthropic commitments to financially support a number of reputable non-profit charitable organizations, bringing awareness to environmental and lifestyle factors that compromise human health. From 2010 to 2023, together, we substantially moved the needle regarding public awareness about the need to protect pet health.
I continued working full-time with the mission-focused Mercola.com executive team. On Feb 7, 2024, when I was informed that the CEO, who had been instrumental in my joining the Mercola.com platform and moving pet health initiatives forward, had been suddenly terminated without explanation. In addition, two other executive staff members were suddenly terminated without explanation, including Dr. Mercola’s sister, the chief editor, with whom I had worked closely for over a decade.
In June, Mercola.com insisted that I sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) after 15 years of working for the company and also simultaneously stopped paying me for my work.
In addition, I was made aware that most of the philanthropic commitments to non-profit charities funded through Dr. Mercola’s Natural Products Research Foundation had been suddenly terminated without explanation and that the pet health initiatives I had created were also being eliminated.
I have also been made aware of a simultaneous abrupt shift in the Mercola.com platform’s mission, which entails pivoting toward a spiritual focus that includes “trans-channeling from a multidimensional being from the causal plane,” as disclosed in a series of articles published by Natural Products (see below)
I have not been provided with an explanation from Dr. Mercola or the new executive staff of Mercola.com about why any of these changes have occurred. As a result, I have asked the new management of Mercola.com to remove my name and likeness from the website, and remove content by me, past, present or future, and stop using my formulas and images. As of today, this has not yet occurred, and Mercola.com and its subsidiaries continue to publish my content and use my formulas and images without consent. I have not provided any veterinary oversight or input for this business since June 22, 2024.
Due to professional, ethical, moral, and spiritual differences with the new management of Mercola.com, I have no choice but to no longer associate with Mercola.com, Bark & Whiskers, or any of its related entities in any capacity. It is with great sadness that I am compelled to take this step. As with all the amazing companies and organizations I work with to make the world better for animals, I will always be grateful for the opportunity I had through Dr. Mercola and his former executive staff to forward my mission on behalf of animal health, and I will continue to pray for Dr. Mercola’s health and well-being.
