I have tried everything non-prescription and nothing seems to work for long. They all work for about a week then quit.  Does anybody use something that really works for them?

My secret? Never sleep too many hours. I have worked every shift possible. I had to learn to sleep during the day when working graveyard shift. Kinda the same as day working hours when working the 4pm-midnight shift, just absolutely no social life.

Never tried to sleep unless I was/am Sleepy. Working and retired are pretty much the same, 4-5 hours, never more than 6. Never took stimulants to stay awake on graveyard shift or downers to go to sleep, OTC/Prescription or any so-called natural sleep inducers.

Maybe some actually more sleep, but why anyone wants to go to sleep when they aren't sleepy? Doesn't surprise me that they can't sleep. I am talking about those without health conditions that can interfere with sleep.

@Desert Lily.  Best thing in the world for sleep is The Bob Ross Channel which I get on my Samsung TV on TV Plus.  He paints pretty much the same thing 24/7.

Re: What do you take to help you sleep?

I take Melatonin but I don't know why, I might as well swallow 2 TicTacs.

I may sleep for an hour then am awake for 3 or 4 hours, another hour etc.

The other night I was just dozing off when DD got up for work at 6am.I got up at 8:30am.  2 and 1/2 whole hours of sleep.

I don't nap, I just don't sleep. I won't take prescription sleeping pills.

I figure I'll sleep when I'm dead.

Re: What do you take to help you sleep?

I use olly bedtime beauty (1 chew) and 2 olly restful sleep.  These are surprisingly helpful to me!  (btw, the bedtime beautiy I purchased from sephora, the restful sleep from vitacost online - I think even some supermarkets carry it now).

If you need more suggestions - let me know!  I've tried so many.

Your sleep routine sounds a lot like mine.  I seem to cat nap during the night now instead of sleeping several hours straight like I used to.

Last night, or rather this morning, I finally fell asleep sometime after 4am and got up at 7.  I don't nap either.

This has just been my pattern for the last few years now and I don't anticipate it changing.

I'm sleeping a lot better lately - but a small glass of wine knocks me out.

Re: What do you take to help you sleep?

Different things....right now I'm back on allergy/sinus meds because I'm having troubles in that area so I'm killing two birds with one stone so to speak...I was taking melatonin which helped, but I found I was getting weird aches and pains during the day so I stopped and so did the pain...sometimes I take unisom, sometimes a Tylenol pm...I'm hoping to get back to taking nothing...that's where I was earlier this year then covid hit and we lost our dog in April, which was devastating and I couldn't sleep again. I do find diet has a lot to do with it as well, too much sugar at night, or carbs, or dairy....effects me.  Also lack of exercise....my depression has kicked up so I'm finding all these things hard to do right now but I have to if I want to get back on track.

Take time every day to enjoy where you are without a need to fix it
