a hard time going to sleep? I will talk to my doctor next month when I see him. I started taking melatonin-it says for occassional times but it is getting to be almost every night. I did managed to have 3 nights that I fell asleep in a row but I am back to taking it again. Some say it is my mind since my husband died and I blame it on the wind coming through many vents. My son says he can't hear them and I hope he is telling the truth. I am going Nuts. He is away for he went to see a friend who is ill with no cure. His friend wanted to see everyone. For Bob it is since high school.
Any hints for me would be appreciative.

@halfpint1 Have you tried drinking some hot tea (there are naptime or similar types) or taking a warm bath or shower before bed? I know if I do that it helps me fall asleep.
I have times when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep. I try to relax my thoughts and imagine I am on a swing and just focus on going back and forth on the swing.
Good luck, just curl up under a warm blanket and wear earplugs if you have noise or use a "white" or "pink" noise machine or listen to soft music to help you relax.

A glass of wine before bedtime.

I think is is a good idea to speak with your doctor concerning your sleep patterns. I use to take melatonin but it really did not work so some nights I drink a cup of ginger and turmeric tea. On occasions, I make my own hibiscus tea and that really helps!

You may want to try a noise machine. I started using one when we traveled. Also a mild prescription may help.

@halfpint1 Don't stress out because you can't sleep, when you get tired enough you will fall asleep. I bet you don't have to be any where so you can sleep when you are tired. I doubt you want to take medication to sleep, if you do you are at greater risk for falls. I have trouble falling asleep too, sometime I don't fall asleep until 4 or 5 in the morning, but I sleep till noon. As far as the sound of the wind through the vents, try wearing ear plugs.

I think you are simply uncomfortable tonight/this weekend, because you know Bob is away.
Between Bob, the police, and the paid service technicians, about 10 people have told you they don’t hear the noise you hear. It’s not the wind, it’s your anxiety.
You are safe inside your house. Going to bed tonight is just like any other night; just climb in bed, find your comfortable spot, think about something you plan to do tomorrow, and sleep will come.

Get some exercise; take a long walk, run the vacuum cleaner, wash the car, do something to make yourself tired.
No napping or sleeping in the daytime, or evening while watching TV.

My daughter has insomnia even with all of her sleeping meds. After 30 mins of not falling asleep I tell her to do a quiet activity. She could straighten up her drawers, go through her bin of nail polish and get rid of old ones or even do her nails. If she stays in bed she gets angry and you can’t fall asleep angry.
