What Your Tongue is Trying to Tell You About Your Health

There are a few factors that are worth noting when you look at your tongue: shape, shadings, markings, wetness, texture, and coating. A healthy tongue should look like a kitten’s tongue or a young baby’s tongue: symmetrical and evenly pink. It should not tremble. It should have a thin, transparent coating. All the taste buds should be flat, orderly, and free from bumps, lines, cracks, and patches. It should not have foam, hair, fur, be too dry, or too wet, or have a foul odor or taste.

@lolakimono

Thanks so much for posting this information.  According the chart I have chronic vata. The symptoms match exactly what I'm experiencing.  One of those symptoms has been all my joints cracking. I never had that before and couldn't find any information about it.  It all makes sense now.   Wow.

Thanks!

Hair or fur on your tongue?  I should think that would tell you something is wrong.

This is interesting - can't you just see all the readers of this chart in front of their mirror tonight (me included) with their tongue lapping out?    (so funny)    I knew about lack of vitamins resulting in teeth impression;s but have never seen a chart and/or descriptions like this.  I'm also aware of articles about various locations on the bottom of your foot being connected to your various organs - heart, kidneys, etc.  Thank you for your posting - happy licks to all!

Um, when I compare my own tongue to the pics, I have issues.  I feel fine though.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

Just looked at my tongue and I am ok for now. Have many other issues so I am glad my tongue is clear.

I don't know what any of this means. According to my known health issues? This chart(?), I would not recognise my own tongue let alone relate it to what is or is not symptomatic of any of my several known health issues.

You do realie there is absolutely no science behind this.  This is pure bunk.

Of course, some people will believe it because they saw it online, but anhone with even a middle-school understanding of biology will recognie that this is nonsense.

Chinese medicine relies on this a lot.  This is the first thing my acupuncturist, a medical doctor, asked to see, before she began each session.

Dentists also rely on the tongue to see the "big picture" with the internal organs.
