Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Did BodyGym this morning and I am trying to get my arms in shape for summer.  They really need it so I am all about tricep pushups.  Hopefully that will work since the past five years at the gym apparently did nothing.   My shoulder is still a little too sore for the BG moves so I am on my own to get some muscle there.

Hope everyone is off to a great start for May!

Cardio done and some weights, too.

Bopper, I hope you enjoyed your time with DS and that your dad has done OK this weekend.

Laura, your chicken and home made tomato sauce sounds good.  Like you, on weekends I try to get things ready for weekday lunches.

@Buckaroo2, glad you posted. All are welcome here. I agree, the lilacs are lovely.

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Oh I love the lilacs!  A favorite fragrance of mine.

@bopper, I likewise hope you had a good weekend with your son. Thank you for starting the May check-in.

I've completed a first month with you ladies!  I don't think I can ever get my arms in shape for summer - I'm going to be 58 come Mother's Day, and I inherited my Mom's genetically flabby arms.  No matter how hard I train them - there's not much hope for flabby skin and I was also a yo yo dieter and have had many sunburns in my youth, so you will not see me in a tank top often!

That said - I had a couple of great gym workouts over the weekend, pushing myself out of the comfort zone.  Saturday evening also featured a nice stretch-y yoga practice to help combat soreness.

Waves to all! Smiley Happy

@PilatesLover  You go girl!  I thought about the gym this weekend but after my hike and lawn mowing on Saturday I did like God and rested.

Did the full Ride class this morning and followed all the choreography for the first time in I can't remember except for a little tiny bit where my back said no but I am very proud of myself.  Smiley Very Happy

Still working the triceps pushups on my own and the Body Gym.  Trying to tone it all up for summer.  I don't like this 40 something and everything falls apart era in my life.  That nonsense needs to stop.  Like now.

Hope everyone is off to a great week!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Hi everyone, thank you for the well wishes regarding my dad.   We did enjoy seeing our son this past weekend and dad is holding his own.  He seems so much better at home.  Hard to figure out and has everyone puzzled with no diagnosis.  Just going day by day and thankful he seems like our old dad!

Everyones workouts are coming along nicely, happy to see that.  I can't do a tricep pushup...Can hardly do a regular one!    I got in a dog walk this afternoon after I left my dads house.   Not a long one but better than nothing.  I get mentally exhausted is my problem  ..   I just need adjusting time I think and I"ll get there.

My hubby is getting dad to come her tonight for dinner and then we'll take him back to his house and the next shift comes in to watch him.

Keep going everyone!

Bopper, I'm glad your dad is doing better at hme..  Hugs and prayers.

Hi, Pilates and Laura.  Judy, you still there, too?  And Lucy, of course, and Tony.

Cardio done.

I read an interesting article on MSN today about a doc who did a follow-up study on the season 8 Biggest Loser contestants. That was several years ago.  All but one (I think) have regained much of the weight they lost, and at least one is even heavier.  Here's what was interesting...at the end of season 8, their metabolism was lower than at the beginning.  That was expected, weight loss causes that. But their metabolism is even lower now, and that was unexpected.  Also, there's a hormone that's out of whack in a manner that causes food cravings.  The metabolism and hormone changes make it extremely difficult to maintain weight loss.  You have to eat a lot less and workout a lot more to maintain the weight loss. This study made it seem almost impossible because the body works very hard to get back to the weight it once was.  Maintenance is much harder to achieve than the initial weight loss.  The weight gain they've experienced is not entirely due to getting lazy and not sticking with the program.  It's a lot more complicated.  Very interesting.  The story is here.

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Hi Everyone!  I'm here!

Bopper - so glad to hear that your dad is doing so much better at home and that you had a nice weekend with your son.

Nomless - I've never watched Biggest Loser but what an interesting article.

Hi to Lucy, Laura, Pilates, and everyone else!

Today was my first day doing any exercise at all since last Tuesday.  Got lazy and felt fatigued.  Feel much better and more like myself today.  Tonight when I got home from work I did some upper body work only with the BG.  Tomorrow I'll start back up with the PiYo.

I have 4 months until I leave on my trip - leave Aug 31.  I want to be in better shape than I am now.  Not going to put any pressure on myself about pounds lost - what I lose is what I lose even if it's no pounds at all - but I do want to be stronger and feel healthier.  It'd be nice if my pants did fit a little looser tho! LOL  I don't think there will be much exercise being done on the trip - other than walking and more just casual sightseeing type walking than any exercise type walking.

So, jumping back into my routine tomorrow, Tuesday, and time to get serious!

Hope everyone has a good evening!

Glad to hear all the good news especially @bopper  Heart

My pushups (done on my knees) and BodyGym will be waiting for me tonight.  I rediscovered my radio app on my phone this morning and did some dancing this morning before work so I am officially logging getting down with my bad self in my pjs, slippers and  robe in the kitchen as my cardio for the day.   Smiley TongueSmiley Very Happy
