Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

Brrr....it's cold and rainy today. We had thunderstorms and cloud rotation last night with tornado warnings but fortunately, none touched down.

Tonight is weight night. Ugh.

Hi to all!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

MickD...bluck is right! LOL! I'm telling you, I don't like this heat! I don't complain about the cold so I feel I have every right to state my opinion on the heat.Wink{#emotions_dlg.laugh} I'll run in sub-zero temps any day over this...there was a big discussion on this very thing in a group I belong to. 98% of the runners said the same thing.

I walked the dogs this morning and went grocery shopping...traffic was really bad so it really didn't do me any favors. But the check-out line was short. Came home and ran 5 miles but did it at a nice, comfortable pace. I don't need my heart-rate at 100%, 6 days a week, 3 is more than enough...lol!

I also want to acclimate myself to the heat by taking it easier. I have noticed how much it takes out of the dogs so there is something to it, even though it isn't that bad here 'yet'. Anything over 60* is hot to me!{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Waving to everyone!!! Going to walk the dogs to the park then finish my bedsheets and get some more stuff crossed off my "to-do" list for the move.

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

Hi! I did the treadmill for 2.75 mi./34 min. And another %$^#@ hot day 99 degrees/10% humidity. These extreme temps in the US are crazy!...and tornados in Detroit area...freaky!

Patti - I am with you on the extreme heat. I used to run along the lake in Chicago in the winter. My co-workers thought that I was crazy....it's called layering people. For me any temp over mid 70's is too high for running (when I used to run like the wind)...give me an overcast mid 60's day and I used to fly.

I was thinking that one week ago today I ran in 32* weather...today, we're almost 90*.

That's what I say....put some layers on and move and you're good to go! My gf in Alaska goes out when it's 30* below but just about died with the heat and humidity in NC...lol.

You can't do anything about it being too hot though...it's very dangerous. One lady said she runs all the time, just dropped right before the finish line of a race this past weekend and didn't see it coming. Woke up in ER with IV because of heat-stroke. It can happen so quickly.

I agree...I much prefer cold over hot weather. Not a fan of summer. Yay for me...I did 50 min cardio hen I so wanted to blow it off. I worked hard, too! Good job!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

Morning, so glad to have sun this morning. Did a upper body workout and then rode my bike...

Finishing up the raking in the front yard later also.

We are talking snow on Thursday night into Friday....but I won't complain as I don't want 90...can't do anything when it's that hot.

I have so many birds lately for those loving to feed the birds. I have an Oriole coming in and a pair of Rosebreasted Grosbeaks, nuthatches, chickadees, many kinds of sparrows and woodpeckers, the hummers are back and Gold finches....so much color!

Have a good day all!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

Morning everyone! We were in the 50's this morning...ahhhh.{#emotions_dlg.thumbup} It was 95% humidity and dew point was high, but still MUCH better than yesterday.

So I did 5 miles this morning and then 65 hard minutes of OTF...{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}. Everyone was saying they're still sore from Monday's single-leg squats and the horizontal body suspension where you tap the wall with your feet while holding your body up. So at least it wasn't just me!

Got groceries again and here I am. Going to take the dogs out before it rains...I hope!{#emotions_dlg.unsure}

nomless, way to push yourself...I had to dig deep this morning on my first all-out, was up a lot last night and have bad cramps but something clicked and I was able to hit-it hard.

bopper, I saw a bird yesterday on the trails that I need to look up, it was very pretty even though it wasn't colorful...charcoal grey and black but the top of it's head was a shiny black.

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

You know I love my articles. Wink{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Why Trying to Lose Weight Fast is a Bad Idea...

In reality, the list of reasons is long enough to write a book. I’m going to break down the more important ones, and when you’re done reading this article, try reading some more sensible weight loss advice.

Slows Down Your Metabolism

There’s a limit to how much fat you can lose in any given time. Notice I said fat. Weight and fat are not the same thing. Starving yourself to lose weight fast will cause your body to undergo several negative adaptations.

For starters, it will shed muscle tissue. Many people don’t seem to care about this, but muscle is your biggest friend when it comes to losing weight.

Losing weight fast slows your metabolism by breaking down muscle tissue. Since muscle is very metabolically active, burning approximately 5.67 calories per pound per day, any amount of muscle you lose is going to require a reduction in calories. After continuously reducing calories more and more, you eventually reach a plateau even though you’re eating very few calories.

It Kills Your Motivation

People start their weight loss programs with motivation levels at an all-time high. You need to be doing everything possible to keep those levels high.

As soon as your motivation levels drop below a certain threshold, you end up throwing in the towel. One of the biggest motivators is making continual progress, and that is something losing weight fast can’t do.

Yes, you might lose weight fast following one of these gimmicky plans, but the results are short-lived. Your body is going to throw everything it can at you to stop you from continuing the insane weight loss tactics you’re trying. Hunger and food cravings will be unbearable. Energy levels will be at an all-time low. Your mood will suffer and it will affect the people around you.

All that for what? A quick 10 pounds of weight loss, of which 3 pounds was fat, 3 pounds was muscle, and 4 pounds was water. Add to that the people that are now ticked off at you after your month-long bad attitude brought on by low blood sugar.

And let’s not forget that you will likely put most of that weight back on and then some since you never really learned to change your eating habits. Does it really seem worth it?

Change Your Lifestyle Slowly

Few people want to take the time to change their lifestyle, yet it is the only way to achieve long-term weight loss success. You can either repeat your yearly ritual (which has probably been going on for years now) of searching for how to lose weight fast, or you can finally take the necessary steps to change your life forever. In the end, you will get a much better return on your time invested if you change your lifestyle.

The choice is yours. Choose wisely.

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

Patty, thanks for posting the article. It took me a lifetime to learn that diets don't work. It's gotta be a llife style change that's forever. I was going to do weights, but I wimped out. I did a Firm workout instead. Nice. Basic moves, no drama or yelling or extreme exertion, but total body, thorough.
