Re: Welcome to the March Exercise Check In

Hi, Kjohnson. We like people to bust in! It's a shame that X3 didn't meet your needs / expectations. Do you think it made you stronger? I've done X and a bunch of Tony's older workouts, but I don't have X3 yet. It's on my wish list. I haven't tried the Insanity workouts as they're higher impact than I can do....I'd have to modify a lot. I did 40 min cardio on bike and treadmill. Two others were there, both doing lots of moaning and groaning. It was making me nuts, hence I quit before I wanted to.

Re: Welcome to the March Exercise Check In

Ah, good to be back. You guys are a tremendous motivator for me. Had so much "fun" doing those callenetics that after I wrote yesterday I did some core fusion arms and topped it off with some good old Gilad. Gilad's helpers smile... He let me down too. I managed to pick out a segment that focused on glutes. Those were already sore.

I don't think you're missing out too much nomless by not doing callenetics. I intend to add her in a bit, but she doesn't involve the whole body enough. That gazelle came in handy today to iron out the muscles she messed up for me with her oh so very gentle exercises. And I need some cardio, I enjoy it.

I can do pull ups on that barre too Patty. And they feel good! You have visiting cats? Sorry, but I had to giggle about Lucy pushing them off the couch. Most cats need a good push now and then. Do they have all their weaponry to defend themselves? That makes a difference too. It's pretty obvious that you love your four-footers, so I'm not cringing too bad over on this end.

bopper, hey, I'll try to huff and puff some of the weather we are supposed to get in a few days up your way. Numbers like 40 and up are being thrown around! That would be incredible. How is your snow cover? A very odd year this season as there is very little snow here so it can't keep the temps down like it normally would.

And kjohnson, I am so sorry you don't like your X3 yet glad to hear it. That looked like something I was missing out on. I already have so many choices I just couldn't justify picking it up. Sorry, really, but that's a thrill to hear. I'm sure your new Insanity will make up for it.

Everyone take care. Laughing at the last entry I can still see about having to put up with others moaning and groaning. That would be a pain, wouldn't it?

I know X3 was really working my upper body/chest area. Tony loves his chin-ups and "hitting the deck" (low and high plank). I don't want to bash it necessarily, it was a nice change up for 6 weeks. Except I will say I tried to keep an open mind regarding yoga and pilates. Try as I could, I can not get into those exercises! I know I'll probably bust one out every now and then especially when I'm doing the Max 30...30 minutes isn't enough exercise for me in a day...but to do those weekly is just not my thing.

Do I think I'm stronger for doing X3...probably. But I'm still looking for more of that calorie burn and getting my breathing and heart rate up. I've had chronic asthma since I was a kid. I has some seriously pathetic lungs so when I'm doing Insanity, T25, heck even some of my old Tae Bo, my lungs feel stronger with very little if any symptoms. During the X90 I noticed I was reaching for my fast acting inhaler a bit too much.

So, with Max 30 only being 30 minutes, I will probably bring out some of my DVDs that focus on strength training. I know I need that balance. And that's where I think X3 fails. Cardio just isn't represented enough.

Speaking of cardio. My husband bought an adjustable jump rope. I snickered. Then I tried "that silly kid's game". Oh.My! 15 minutes of jump roping is one insane cardio workout! I don't think that rope is silly anymore. {#emotions_dlg.blush}

Re: Welcome to the March Exercise Check In

Canine, it was fun to read your post while I ate breakfast. Kjohnson, thanks ever so much for your detailed review of X3. I agree that Tony's workouts emphasize strength. He throws in a bit of cardio, but his cardio isn't high intensity. It sounds like X3 follows the same pattern. It's great you have a good understanding of what you need and which programs work best for you.

Re: Welcome to the March Exercise Check In

Morning, another below zero day here and a high of about 10. If it weren't for the sun I think I'd lose it! {#emotions_dlg.laugh} We do have a lot of snow....I mean a lot!

Today I am so excited about the Total Gym 14 Day Challenge workout. I did it this morning after I warmed up for a mile on the treadmill . It isn't out on DVD yet, but I youtubed it and it was awesome...HR up the whole time and it was challenging....as soon as it comes out on DVD I'm on it! It was about 45 minutes long.

I also need more stretching. Nomless what informercial is it with the Yoga,,,I would like to see it.

Welcome kjohnson, I think you have some excellent workout on tap. I did P90X and I didn't lose any weight but it wasn't too bad. I wished I had some adjustable weights that were actually easy to use. I have Sport Blocks and don't like them at all. I am always worried they will let loose and fall on my face. What did you use? I'd love bowflex weights but they aren't in the budget. Keep going!

Canine I huff and puff too and it's nice to know others are groaning and moaning! I am really glad your back in the game! We can do this! My hair right now is a sweaty mess and I love it! High five girl!

Pppmint Lucy is a little devil and she runs your household Haha. Is today a treadmill day or outside day? Like I said we have sun, it may be cold but at least we have sun. Waiting on Spring.

Okay kids very glad to see so many posts,,,yay........... Need to hit the showers..Have a wonderful day!

Re: Welcome to the March Exercise Check In

Hey, Bopper. Thanks for the info about yet another new TG workout. It sounds great.

DDP Yoga is the informercial I was speaking of. They're playing it quite often, I think. I can find the infomercial online but the website is here. It's a program that addresses both strength and flexibility and apparently some have achieved dramatic results. Interesting.

Re: Welcome to the March Exercise Check In

Hey all! Pouring rain now(guess some sleet too) and snow later to a nasty mix. Yay!{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

canine, we are babysitting my gf's dog, the cats are ours...lol! Lucy is such a bully to them and for the life of me, I have no idea why the one hasn't let her have it because she isn't one to mess with. And they are NOT declawed either, they've bopped her on the head a few times but that just adds fuel to the fire...lol!

kjohnson...I love jump-roping! Very easy to pack for traveling and a great cardio work-out. I jump-rope every week.

I was going to work-out here but my gf called me as soon as I was starting. We did 5 miles and the TRX class...it was the boot-camp style one so it was a good work-out. We were both sore from yesterday and now I'm even more sore, but I may need to don a swim-suit next month so have to hit it hard.Wink

We sure are all over the map with our preferred methods of exercise here! {#emotions_dlg.laugh} All different levels and preferences but it works!{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Hey bopper... Over the course of the last few years I bought a series of neoprene dumbbells 3-8 pounds from D i cks Sporting Goods. Love the neoprene because it helps you grip when things get really sweaty. My husband has a metal plated adjustable set. I have tried them and I'm not thrilled with how they feel in my hands. I think it has to do with the metal grip and the length of the bar.

I'll probably continue with purchasing more of the neoprene when/if I get to the point that 8 lbs in each hand isn't enough. Not sure if I see that happening!
