Re: Welcome to the April Exercise Check In

NoTan, I have no idea if you will get anyone to respond with specifics on Zumba. I don't do Zumba, but it has some similarities with fast Tai Chi I would think. I'll take a stab at this and see if I can offer anything worthwhile.

Purchase dvd's or hit the web for basic maneuvers and get skilled at those. For next time, separate out part of the moves. Can you just follow the lower body moves or upper body? Don't worry about getting all the moves at once.

Lastly, there was no one in that room that had not experienced the same thing as you. Everyone had some difficulty at some point. Absolutely no reason for you to be deflated!! Easy for me to say, I know, I'm at home with my dvd's. A smile and a shrug and try to jump back in? That's what I try to have students do in dog obedience classes. Different choreography surely, but choreography all the same. Practice, don't give up and it will get better.

Re: Welcome to the April Exercise Check In

And checking back in with my workout. Earlier quick stretch out on the gazelle, push ups, a 20 minute basic Malibu Pilate workout I had to give up a while back because of a shoulder out of whack (now back in whack?) and 20 minutes of Sadie's Barre 3. Highlights were the froggy dips on the chair and the standing diamond with the barre that I still have to bale out of early. Yes, they are gentle but they really pack a punch.

It snowed here earlier too. Flakes the size of apricots, impressive. And then it got up into the fifties with sun later in the day. It's that close to you bopper - not much longer.

Re: Welcome to the April Exercise Check In

Hi, NoTan, it's so nice to see you posting here again. I can't help you with Zumda....I can't even get the choreography in the Richard Simmons dvds! I just keep moving and have fun with it and call it good. Doing it home alone is different from a class situation....where there's more pressure to look like you know what you're doing. But I bet others have trouble following, too, so just move and have fun. Remember eva Tony says - do your best, forget the rest. Hi, Canine, happy Saturday.

Re: Welcome to the April Exercise Check In

I'll be honest, I'm too old/brave/confident to care what anyone else in the class thought of me! Indeed, nomless, I do my best and forget the rest!!! The instructor's feet were moving so fast and she was turning every which way. I can usually pick up the steps pretty well and then add the arms when I can, but this was just a joke. I'll just avoid her classes and stick with instructors that are more fun for me. In the meantime, I took a wonderful cardio step class yesterday which was a lot of fun, and I am LOVING Pound classes! My gym offers 3/week, and I go to 2 of them. THe 3rd one is on the same night that I am taking webinars in preparation for my ACSM certification exam. 2 more weeks of that, and then I have to figure out when to register for the test. It's SO nerve-wracking!!!

Sun is shining here today, high 50's! Spring has sprung! Hope you're all having a happy weekend!!!

NoTan, how fun that you've found classes you enjoy. I did an hour today, including a bit of elliptical despite my sore foot.

Re: Welcome to the April Exercise Check In

Hi guys...Happy Monday...right? Wink Sun is out, beautiful weather the past couple of days. We headed on foot early to the beach yesterday so got some mileage in, love being there in the early morning, so peaceful. I mowed the grass and can't remember what else. I can't remember Saturday at all...lol...how scary. {#emotions_dlg.blink} I know we went for a bike ride...it was windy though.

I had an allergic reaction to the Lidocaine and the tape, I believe, from my ear surgery. My ear is still very swollen which is uncomfortable because it's pulling on the stitches so it's still weeping and bleeding some. I did start the antibiotics as I felt it was getting infected because of the allergic reaction...can't win. It wasn't pleasant, or pretty...lol...my eye was almost swollen shut.

NoTan, I don't like Zumba. I walked out of a class in FF, it just wasn't for me and the moves were way too involved, I wasn't enjoying it at all or getting a work-out, so thought "why stay". I did one that was "okay" before, moves were much more doable, but I still don't find it's my thing.

I think I'm skipping CF today and will go tomorrow. It's sooo nice out, going to go for a long bike ride after I run Lucy. I also don't want to bang my ear, it definitely isn't ready for that!

Doing laundry and chores right now. Oh, my son's surgery went well, apparently better than mine! But I'm thankful, better me than him.

Waving to you all and hoping everyone had a nice weekend.

Re: Welcome to the April Exercise Check In

Happy Monday everyone, we are having rain and in the 40's now. Yesterday was a steller day. I didn't check in either, guess I was too preoccupied with the nice weather and baseball. Tis the season for Baseball, love it!

Just did 3 miles on the treadmill inclined and some abs on the TG. If it quits raining I'll go another couple miles outside this afternoon.

PPpmint hoping that ear heals this week and you can start back to your normal routine. Sorry it's giving you a rough time. Glad though DS is doing alright!

Nomless I haven't seen Jillians new program. I'll keep my eye out for it. Glad kitties are better too.

NoTan I don't think I am a Zumba person. I worry about doing it on carpet anyway because of all the pivoting moves..don't need to twist an ankle...I do like to dance though. I wish we could purchase the Pound class dvd's. Are there any?

Canine I love your diversity of workouts...I need to stretch more too, I say that and then I don't follow through. I know I need it.

Tony My Tigers are on a roll, time will tell though! Keeping my fingers crossed.

FUTURE are you still with us!

Waving to all, on to the next thing!

Re: Welcome to the April Exercise Check In

Bopper, hurray, you have rain, not snow!! That's a step in the right direction. Enjoy.

Patty, how frustrating that your ear is causing problems. Lots of good wishes that the swelling goes down and that you avoid an infection. That wouldn't be fun. I hope you and Lucy enjoyed your run.

Notan, you used to do....was it the Firm DVDs? Are you still doing those, too? I remember that you were on Q a couple of times as an exerciser.

We have a sunny day here, mid 60's. Very nice. I had to make a run to my tax preparer over lunch hour due to some questions....like everyone, tax season is stressful....fear that they'll come get me if I do something wrong!

Dang it, my foot is still bothering me, so I'll do just the bike tonight. I do enjoy reading while I do it, though, so it's not too bad. Then DWTS. It's kind of fun this season.

Coco is doing fine after her teeth extractions. I put them back on regular dry kibble on Friday evening, and they ate it voraciously! They were so happy the yucky wet kibble was gone. Sometime Coco coughs a bit while she's eating, so I guess she's still figuring out how to eat now that she has 2 less teeth, but I have no doubt she'll figure it out! Even I say it's good to have things back to normal.

I hope everyone's having a good afternoon.

ETA: it's so nice that Lisa Mason is back. IMO, of course.

Re: Welcome to the April Exercise Check In

Hi All! Bopper- I can't believe you got more snow! I'mstill whining about snow not melting- we still cannot park 2 wide in the driveway- but another storm? I'd be screaming! we have had nice weather- the am temps have been I the 20's but have shot right up to the 60's by afternoon. Yes baseball- the Red Sox have started well, too. Patty- do you ever have a calm, uneventful day? hope your ear and DS are doing well. Nomless-how is your foot? better, I hope. and the IRS? All squared away? I can never get over that you work and then still do some exercise. Good for you! I wish I was able to be that committed. NoTan- I did take a Zumba class but no one got hurt. The instructors are so different and set the tone- we had a fill in and no one was impressed. So, if you liked it- maybe another instructor will be more enjoyable Canine- sounds like you are getting in to those workouts. Bopper- future is either taking a nap or out with some social event! Do ya think she is much younger than us? So- here's to spring!

Re: Welcome to the April Exercise Check In

45 min done on the bike. I think things got squared away with the tax guy today. Hope so! Tony, I have to treat exercise like a job. I make myself do it, like it or not. I know it pays off in the long run.....
