Greetings All!  I am curious.  I was in the gym today and saw several people wearing weighted vests.  One was walking on the treadmill and the other riding the bike.  I wanted to ask about the vests but they looked pretty intense so I decided not to inquire.

Has anyone had experience with a weighted vest and what were your results?  Please share!

thanks!

@Franklinbell

  I've wondered the same. I haven't seen anyone local wearing them but they look interesting. I'm always interested in dialing up my workout.

I've been looking at them on Amazon but not sure if I want a weighted vest or a rucking backpack with weights....

The weight distribution would be different between the 2. A longevity expert/doctor on youtube Peter Attia (I think that's how you spell it) really likes rucking....

So (long story short....too late!), I'll be interested to see the answers too...

I just got one (merry christmas to me present) and I love it. My PCP suggested it as a way to add some resistance training to my normal workouts to help slow bone density loss.

I got mine at ******'s Sporting Goods, but they have them at WM online too. Mine has removable weights which are basically little bags of sand.  It came with enough weights to go up to 10 lbs.

Half go on the front of the vest and half on the back.  I'm not up to the full 10lbs yet, but I can feel a difference when I work out. I walk on the treadmill, or fast walk around my neighborhood, or sometimes do a little jogging.  I'm not one to workout with hand weights or do squats with a medicine ball, so this vest is a perfect answer for me.

My neighbor is a physicial therapist and also recommended a weight vest for resistance workouts.  I also got some of those weights you can velcro onto your arms or legs when you exercise.  Again, I got ones you can start with a low weight and move up if you desire.

I'll wear those when I fast walk outside sometimes.  Haven't tried them on the treadmill yet. Still getting used to this type of addition to my normal routine, but so far so good.  I'm happy with how it's going.  I'm 63 and no professional athlete by any means and I'm doing OK with the vest.    Enjoy!!

  I actually experimented the other day with putting a 20 lb dumbell in a backpack and went on a walk around the neighborhood.

Big mistake....I went too heavy too quick and the weight distribution was really off (pulled my back backwards), not to mention I looked crazy...lady walking around with a big object poking out of a big dumb backpack!

But I could tell the added weight of a properly fitted vest/backpack would add a lot to a workout. It about killed me!

I have a 12# vest that I use when I walk to help build bones.  You can't add weights with mine.  I started out with a 4# vest that could add weights to make 8#.  Since I have osteoporosis, I don't want to do use more than 12#.

@BluestarFL Thanks!  @GingerHead I am going to ask Santa (myself) for a vest for Christmas!!  I am excited to try this.  I am amazed how a few changes can make for positive results!  I put a five lb weight in my backpack and walked around for a while.  WoW!  That was something.  I so appreciate your letting me know your experiences.  When I am more cut and buff I will owe it to you!!

They look like they would be hot. Might be ok in the winter but I can't imagine wearing one in the hot miserable Arizona summers. But then again, no one walks outside in the summer anyway. It might be ok on an indoor walking track.
