Re: ๐Ÿ’Š๐Ÿ’‰ Weight Loss Meds ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’Š

Thank you for posting this information.  I am 68 and have battled weight since the eighth grade. There have been many times when I was able to lose significant amounts of weight and keep it off for 2 or 3 years but the overwhelming hunger and cravings (that never went away) would eventually wear me down and regain occurred.

I am paying out of pocket for a compounded version  from a reputable pharmacy for almost 2 years. The drug has changed my life. No more food obsession and overwhelming cravings. I look great,  not emaciated. I now go to the gym and public events because I am no longer self conscious.

I had some side effects in the beginning but nothing now. Don"t feel sorry for me! Some folks need this medicine and are entitled to use it without judging from others.

I am happy to see that some manufacturers are lowering their prices for vials of branded product. This will help people who have been successful with the compounded version to continue.

Re: ๐Ÿ’Š๐Ÿ’‰ Weight Loss Meds ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’Š

I am so happy about this, for those who need these drugs and cannot afford them. I have been on Mounjaro for over 2.5 years but my insurance pays for it because I am diabetic. Others, who need it, can't get it.

I know there is much talk about these drugs, but research has shown that they improve all over health. As well as the my diabetes being under control, I have lost over 85 pounds, my labs are perfect, my liver is perfect (no fatty liver disease). My inflammatory markers are great. I am off of blood pressure medication.

Cardiovascular health has been shown to improve with people on these medications. I belong to a GLP-1 group on facebook and cringe at the the people who are getting compounded GLP-1's with no real medical support. They are just kind of "winging it", dosing themselves. This is not good.

I think the new pricing will help people afford the drugs and not be subject to hustlers out there, selling god knows what that people are injecting into themselves to lose weight.

A disclaimer, I am under the care of an Endocrinologist, who I see every 6 months, he orders my labs etc. Many people do not have this luxury and went the rout of Internet sellers. I think this can be a dangerous practice.

@smoochy Good luck. I hope you get approved. I took  semiglutide and was too nauseated and didn't lose an ounce. I took it for 8 weeks. I would try tirzepitide but my insurance will not cover it and can't justify the money. I don't have that much to lose but I'm stuck. Most people I know have no intention of stopping it so it's not a short commitment.

Re: ๐Ÿ’Š๐Ÿ’‰ Weight Loss Meds ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’Š

@katie1859   You are very fortunate what you are doing works for you.

I haven't had any wheat products for almost 41 years.  I have never drank milk or eaten many dairy products.  Occasionally I will have some cheese, but no ice cream, puddings, milk shakes, etc.

I have never been a snacker.

I usually eat one meal a day, always made at home and very little processed foods.  I don't drink alcohol...never have.

Pretty much what you're doing is what I have been doing for years.  I am not thin and hven't been since I got pregnant.  After that my body changed and I struggle with weight.

I either get sick (A-Fib) on low carb diets or gain on most others...you name it, I have been on it.

I don't take any meds except for Vitamin D, and have no health concerns, but I can't lose weight.

I doubt weight loss drugs would even work for me. So far, nothing has.

Everyone is different.  What works for some does not work for everyone.

If drugs work for some people, they should not feel embarassed to take them.

And, to those who think they are superior for not needing them to lose weight, good for you.

You did it your way.  Now, let others do it their way.

Some have no choice because nothing else has worked.

@chvall99 You post made me cry because I know what it is like to be fat shamed and shamed because I take a drug that helped me lose weight. I am diabetic, so I have qualified for the Mounjaro from day 1, but others have not.

Obesity is a disease, just like any other disease, hypertension, for example. I know if I stop the drug, the food noise will come back.

You are improving your health, no shame in that. The drug is a tool to help you be successful in your weight loss.

If diet and exercise worked, we would all be successful and the correct weight.

I have a hormonal problem that makes me want to eat to excess. The medication seems to shut off those cravings. I am grateful for that.

To those, who have not taken the drug and talk about the "horrible side effects". Some have no side effects, some very little. I really don't have many side effects. Mostly gas which can be controlled.

Re: ๐Ÿ’Š๐Ÿ’‰ Weight Loss Meds ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’Š

That's still a lot of money for someone who doesn't have insurance.

I know in the beginning, insurance would only cover it for people whose numbers were out of range.  As soon as you got back into range, insurance would stop covering it.  Then, all the cravings came back, so you're back on the diet roller coaster or pay through the nose. I hope that part at least has changed.  You don't get off other drugs when you get your numbers in the good range.

As far as the other diet goes, that's just too many NO's for me.  Luckily, I've found what works for me to keep me consistently at the weight I am.  Would I like to lose another 5 lb?  Yes, but I'm just not going to deny myself the foods I enjoy for that.  I haven't seen 130 in decades, and I have a lot of muscle mass. I hate a lot about my body, but it's really not about the weight.

This became a sad read....  I wish you all success in your weight loss journey's.  No matter what others say or think, you do what's right for you.  I have confidence that you will get to where you need to be and in a healthier form!   I never really had much of a weight issue however my daughter does and has other medical issues from her younger years.  (She's now 41) and she is on a weight loss med and it has helped her immensely.  My heart breaks for those who are making such an effort and get shamed in the process.  It is not easy for you and I totally understand what you are going through. Smiley Sad
