Re: Week Three of the NFL Regular Season!!!

These NFC East games are almost always like that. They're just fights to the death. It'll be interesting to see if either team can win next week after a game as physical as that one was. It's going to be tougher for the Redskins playing on Thursday but both teams will be a bit spent this week. Those games take a lot out of you.

Re: Week Three of the NFL Regular Season!!!

I didn't do too badly on my football picks: 10-5, so far. I got last night's game wrong since I didn't expect Pittsburgh to play that well. They way they dominated Carolina took me by surprise. There were quite a lot of Steeler fans in the stadium, even though it was in Carolina.

The Colts game was a rout of Jacksonville. Gardenman, you called that one correctly. Richardson is starting to make plays and Bradshaw is doing well. Of course, this was the Jaguars, but both rb's ran well against the Eagles, also. I have a feeling that Bortles might be considered for the the starting quarterback job for Jacksonville from now on. That team, and the fans, finally showed some life when Bortles was brought in. They were too far behind to do much good, but I could tell a difference as soon as there was a quarterback change. Hasselbeck finished out the game for the Colts.

I can't say I'm surprised at how St. Louis played. I remember the way they dominated the Colts last season when no one expected it. The Rams have talent, they just don't always show it.

Heartbreaking loss for Denver, but Peyton showed that he still has it. This was kind of a statement for Denver: they proved that they can score and give Seattle a run for their money.

I'm impressed by Arizona. They are making their mark in what is a very tough division. Bruce Arians is doing a nice job with that team.

Re: Week Three of the NFL Regular Season!!!

I'm pretty sure we'll see a lot more of Bortles now for Jacksonville. I think the players knew he was their best QB coming out of camp and then when he got benched they went into a funk. Now with him back out there they may just pick things up a bit. They played pretty well in the second half of last season, but have been horrible this year. I understand the coaches wanting Bortles to have some time to get his feet under him, but I think the team wanted Bortles in now and made that clear through their play. We'll have to see what happens now.

We've got a mini controversy swirling in Philly as Cary Williams, our outspoken cornerback, is now blaming the Eagles slow starts on Chip Kelly working the players too hard. (Any team looking for a somewhat outspoken corner should be aware that he'll be available this off season if not sooner.) Even if you think that's an issue, you don't state it publicly. You talk about it with the coaches. You raise the issue privately. You don't blame your poor play on it. We've got a couple of young kid corners who might start finding themselves getting more playing time now. Cary has been a bit of a troublemaker since he got here. He missed the mini-camps last year to pick out sconces for his new house and to watch his daughter's piano recital. He got into a fight at the scrimmage with the Patriots last year. He picked a fight with Riley Cooper in practice last year and shouted racial obscenities at him after Riley's incident at the concert. He seems to like to start a lot of fires, and I'm pretty sure Chip Kelly would just as soon kill him. If I was a betting man, I'd bet he won't be on the roster next year at this time. I wouldn't be shocked to see him off the roster next week. We've got Nolan Carroll in the house as a third corner and Carroll played very well in the preseason. It's pretty obvious Cary isn't buying into the program and that's the easiest way to find yourself out of work.

It's been a pretty good week of football. The Bears/Jets tonight may be one of the less entertaining games, but the rest of the games were all pretty good.

The Niners go into next week in an absolutely must win mode. They're 1-2 now and a loss to the Eagles would put them at 1-3 in a tough division. That's going to be an interesting game. The Eagles are pretty much devastated on the offensive line, but still winning somehow. (At the end of yesterday's game we'd lost seven of our top nine offensive linemen coming out of camp. Yikes!) We should get Peters back this week as the league is reportedly not suspending anyone for the fight. We'll get Lane Johnson back the following week after his four week PED suspension. Hopefully Jason Kelce's abdominal issue is something minor that heals quickly. (I'm not optimistic about that though.) With Foles back on target teams can't afford to do what the Redskins did yesterday (crowd the line of scrimmage to take away the run) so they'll have to go back to a more balanced defensive approach or get picked apart through the air. It should be a good game to watch.

Hey TEGAN

CONGRATS ON THE WIN!!!

Yes I have been impressed with the Cards especially when you consider all the injuries they've had on defense too.....That Arians is a DARN GOOD COACH!!!

And how about my cat, Figgy's, Bengals---I think I should make her do all MY picks {#emotions_dlg.laugh} They have been playing well despite having a new OC......

My Redskins are the only team that lost in the NFC East {#emotions_dlg.crying} But I was still pleased with how the offense is playing now. We've got to quit making stupid mistakes....

The Chargers continue to play well.....and the Raiders surprisingly made a good showing and put up a tough fight against the Pats....the Texans and Packers fell apart....maybe Aaron Rodgers worked out too much with Hans and Frans...{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Interesting season so far.....I think we have to get half way through the season before we can separate the contenders from the others.....

I HATE when they do that!!!

Poor Pitta! Hope he's feeling better, but suspect he's pretty much done for this season. His hip just gave out. At first it looked like he couldn't get his footing, but - Ouch!!!

Really liking 44 (Justin).

Hats off to Justin Tucker - He's awesome!

Hey GARDENMAN....

ya know no matter what the sport (I've seen it happen in both the NFL and NBA) if a player complains about practice (i.e. working the players too hard) ....he will not be with that team for long you are so right.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}....he should have kept those thoughts to himself and had a private conversation with Chip, ...Don't know what type of relationship Chip and payers have, but if it was a case where he felt he can't be open with the coach and instead uses the media to make his thoughts knowns that spells trouble and creates discord in the locker room.......

The 49ers have been successful in the past couple of years and they are falling behind the Cards and Seattle so this is indeed a MUST win for them....should be a good game against your Eagles....

Big mouth corners....and what about a big mouth safety for the matching set (Clark and D Hall).{#emotions_dlg.laugh}....but D Hall played well last year, and he may be out for the season they believe injury to be torn achilles tendon....just what we don't need! {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} MRI today...We have 3 CBs David Amerson, rookie Breeland (who has been playing pretty well but still learning) and Tracey Porter whose returning from a hamstring injury.....And Hatcher's injury is a concern for the defense --hamstring appears to be mild, Lauvao on the O line is a concern-knee swelling and a short week too.....why do we need Thursday games.....

Re: Week Three of the NFL Regular Season!!!

And the Jason Kelce news is as feared. He has a sports hernia and needs surgery. He'll be out 4-8 weeks. The good news is we'll get Evan Mathis back in another seven weeks, Kelce should be back in that same window, Lane Johnson comes back next week, so if they all heal correctly and stay healthy, we should have our "normal" offensive line (Peters, Mathis, Kelce, Herremans, Johnson) in time for the playoff run. (Barring additional injuries.) The Schedule somewhat favors the Eagles during this period. We've got the Niners this coming week, then the Rams, Giants, our bye, Cards, Texans, Panthers and by then we should have pretty much everyone back for the Packers, Titans, Cowboys, Seahawks, Cowboys, Redskins, and Giants. We're 3-0 now and if we can go 3-3 in those six games (not hard with the Texans, Giants, Rams in that mix) then we should be nicely positioned for a playoff run with a 6-3 record heading into those final seven games with a fully healthy offensive line. Things will start to improve next week as a couple of the backups get back along with Lane Johnson. Then we'll just be down two starters with our top backups back playing. This week things were more than a little scary with multiple starters out and multiple backups out.
