@hckynut  My Rheumatologists just sent me an email about that vaccine. They prefer it to the others for those of us (you) with autoimmune problems. Also of note, the vaccines will not be a total prevention from COVID. Please continue to wear your masks and maintain safe distancing. There is also no data on how long the vaccines will protect patients against COVID or if we will need booster shots in the future.

All of these questions will be (hopefully) answered by the scientists in the near future.

Glad Omaha is providing the vaccines quickly and efficiently. I'm still on the waiting list, but with this weather I'm OK with that! Not going anywhere until it warms up a little. Smiley Wink

@BirkiLady  That is interesting,I see 2 fheumatologists and the recommend Moderna for their patients. I am not being contrarian but I realize docs have different views on it.

Congrats Hckynut...we get our 2nd in 2 weeks.

I appreciate your viewpoint, @BirkiLady, but please understand that I am hearing about serious problems that people are having, not minor problems.  I am hearing about miscarriages, too.  As long as people are aware that there are risks, then they can make informed medical decisions.  If everyone thinks that there are no risks, then they are not making an informed decision.

I read today that there have been over 1,000 deaths reported to the CDC, but the VAERS (Vakksine Adverse Event Reporting System) does not list them all, but only just over half of them.

I do not share your optimism and faith in our health authorities, not when they are patent holders of some of the technologies used in the very products they are supposed to be ensuring are "safe and effective."  There should be no profit motive for these agencies.  None.  The OTT (Office of Technology Transfer) is a problem for this very reason, in my opinion.

@Jersey Born I feel the same way.  I'm very concerned about long term side effects....possibly an autoimmune illness.  I've lived with DH who has had a severe autoimmune  brain disease for almost 9 years now.  It's been very difficult.

The vaccine is not designed for keeping one from getting infected.  I's really designed from keeping one from getting very sick if they do get infected and they really don't know how long the effects will last...could be as short as 3-4 months.

To be honest I would rather take my chances with Covid.  Studies have shown that those with high vitamin D levels are less likely to have a severe outcome.

In addition, quercetin or hydroxychloroquine (DH has been taking it for years and it's also sold over the counter in some countries to battle malaria) along with zinc also helps with treating covid with positive outcomes.

Those studies that have shown hydroxychloroquine to be problematic were shown to have given people fatal doses.

We're all different.  I make sure to keep my immune system working well and I never eat cheap processed foods.  I try to keep carbs & sugar intake low too.  This is how I'm approaching things concerning this virus.

I am not a medical, professional, but have close family who are.I find it sad that people believe these theories...you should talk to your pcp about the vaccine..not the internet.

By the way, a 44 year old fdistNnfrien nearly died of COVID...his wife is a COVID long hauler.

@Jersey Born Were the 1,000 deaths from the covd vaccine?

I hope not

@on the bay  Please check out these things for yourself with sites and people you trust. There are tons of conspiracy theories out there about everything.

Re: We got Pfizer

[ Edited ]

@on the bay Here's the exact quote from the CDC: "Over 41 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through February 7, 2021. During this time, VAERS received 1,170 reports of death (0.003%) among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine. CDC and FDA physicians review each case report of death as soon as notified and CDC requests medical records to further assess reports. A review of available clinical information including death certificates, autopsy, and medical records findings revealed no link with vaccination. CDC and FDA will continue to investigate reports of adverse events, including deaths, reported to VAERS."

All deaths are being denied as causally related. There will never be any admission of causality. Yet we all know that some people die from aspirin, Coumadin, Motrin, older antibiotics, fluoroquinolones, chemotherapy drugs, newer blood thinners, etc. every single day.

No vaccines for me.  I'm back of the line.  I'm betting my husband I won't get till summer next year. My state is still in 75 or older I think.

@Jersey Born -

Thanks for that information.

I hadn't seen that.

@BirkiLady - Thank you for your reply.  I'll check with my own PCP, of course, but it's also good to hear from someone else with similar issues.  This is all such an unknown territory.

@haddon9  @Jersey Born    I've also been on Plaquinil for  a very, very long time. It, along with other meds, treats my Lupus very well. However, I still must have regular lab work done and see my Rheumatologist the ensure it's working as planned. With anything, there are huge risks with that medication too! Is you husband aware of them??

My Rheumatologist(s) are in a group of seven specialists with several PA's, DNA's, etc. in their own large clinic which periodically perform clinicial trials for Lupus in an attempt to find a better medicine or solution for the disease. They are a brilliant group serving Nebr, Iowa, MO, and Kansas patients.

They sent a lengthy email explaining all of the pros for patients with autoimmune diseases, as well as the side effects. All of them (well trained and continually educated physicians) advocate the vaccine. I'll trust them long before I'll trust some off-the-wall news source or someone on a newsfeed.

Like mentioned before, EVERY medication has it's risks.  We'll have to agree to disagree on this. If you don't wan to have it, don't. But don't spread rumors! Everyone has the right to check with their PCP about the right decision for their health.

Has you husband checked with his Rheumatologist? Is he having regular lab work while on Plaquinil? Is he getting daily exercise? And is he weight on target?  Does he sleep well throughout the night? And eat healthy, natural foods? (I no longer eat beef or port; only a little  salmon or chicken once a week.) All of those things are SO important to a Lupus patients' health and living a relatively normal lifestyle.

Best wishes on staying healthy if you continue without the vaccine. I'm done with this conversation.

@Hoovermom  At least he's admitting he isn't well read about the vaccine and is directing you to those who have been educated. I applaud him for that.

What about checking with your PCP or favorite hospital if you have concerns your HHS or Health Dept. are unable to address? I'm sure there are trusted sources available for you if you check around. Your dentist?  Any medical professional who knows your history and has read up on the pros and cons?

Frankly, I'd wonder about that specialist and how up-to-date he is in his field - and consider changing to someone who is well-versed in the latest. Narrow vision is not my idea of a well-rounded specialist.

Best wishes on making your decision.
