Was the pain worse after having an epideral?

I was pretty good for a couple days. Now I am in PAIN. Hard to get out of bed and up from the sofa. I finally thought to use the board I have the laptop on and lean on that. Pain pills made me sleepy and I threw them up. I got a referral to see a neurosurgeon this coming Friday. Can't live like this!

Re: Was the pain worse after having an epideral?

{#emotions_dlg.sad}I've only had epidurals for giving birth. Are you taking about having an injection for pain relief? I haven't tried that (yet). However, if your pain medication is making you nauseous, it might be the codeine. Can you get your pain medication changed to one without codeine? (Just speaking from my previous experiences.) I'm so sorry for your pain and I hope you get some relief soon.

Re: Was the pain worse after having an epideral?

I'm so sorry to hear this, hope you're feeling better soon. I've had a couple of epiderals, one for one of two children, and two for two different knee surgeries and never had pain like you're describing. I was mostly worried about the headaches they warn you about. But I can tell you that whenever I have a rush of adrenaline (for whatever reason).... I get a localized throbbing there until the adrenaline subsides. After all these years too...

Is the pain in the spinal area? Make sure it's not an infection. If you think it may be, go see a doctor immediately and not wait until your Fri's appt.

I have never had that happen, I've had many epidurals, but I know it can. They should have given you post OP instructions, and it's probably on there as a possible side effect. If it continues, especially if you continue to have an upset stomach, definitely call your doctor this weekend. Try taking the pain meds on a full stomach. You may not feel like eating, but it will probably make you feel better. Good luck!

Absolutely! It's possible that the doctor aggravated the spot where your pain is emanating. This has happening to me before and the pain definitely got worse before it got better. Sorry your pain medication is making you sick. Try taking Extra Strength Tylenol. If pain does not subside or gets worse call the doctor who gave you the epidural or the doctor who suggested you get the epidural. Good luck.

Re: Was the pain worse after having an epideral?

I just had an epidural for a Whipple surgery. Since then I still have pain and my doctor refered me to a pain specialist and another epidural is being offered to me next week. Lucky for me my pain is subsiding and I don't think I will need one. I'm sorry for all your pain. Your doctor should be able to prescribe something for the nausea.

You need to call the doctor. They can fax over a prescription for anti-nausea medication. I had surgery this winter and I could not keep anything down and was in so much pain so not taking the pain meds and switching to Tylenol was not an option. If the nausea still isn't much better with the meds you can get a suppository one. It works much better than the pills

I have had 2 epidurals for stenosis. Never had any pain after the procedure, I would call the Doctor ASAP!

I have had about 8 shots for back pain; one worked. None caused pain after the injection, just didn't work to relieve the pain I went in with.

Too bad you discarded the pain pills, as you could have just reduced the dosage but cutting them in half. They would at least help take the edge off.
