Definitely agree with Wink - my power walking is just one component of my exercise routine. I do (heavy) weight training & other cardio, also.

Me too! My husband watches me on the "heavy" weight lifting. Says I bulk up too much which is easy for me to do so I am careful there. Otherwise it is full speed ahead! Smiley Happy

I walk two miles per day, taking weekends off.

It takes about 35 minutes for me to do the two miles. I have a park with a lake close by and the path around the lake has some nice hills, so I get a varied work out.

Yep. I adopted a Border Collie from the local animal shelter about 7 years ago and we have walked every day, rain or shine since! We walk about 30-40 minutes up and down some hills in the neighborhood. I have about 4-5 different routes I take. The dog probably saved my life because she doesn't take "no" for an answer! I try and get in some swimming in during the summer months as well.

so it's a "who rescued who?" Kind.d of thing. You are a fantastic pet owner. Way to do it right!!!!

Thanks. I wish more people (responsible people) would consider adopting from a shelter. I always had in my mind that I even wanted a dog with one ear up and one ear down. Well, guess what? The universe must have been working in my favor because the dog I ended up rescuing has one ear up - the other down! The shelters have just about any given breed.

I'm a walking fool. Literally. I just got emailed that I've done 2 millions steps so far this year. I was going to try for 3 million by years end, and that would be about 12K/day which is pretty average. However, I'm developing some problems and may need to go see a podiatrist.

One problem I believe is a bone spur on the back of my heel (not the bottom). I also have huge callouses on the sides of my big toes. Sounds real pretty, doesn't it.

We are at our home away from home and I don't want to get started with a doctor here for my feet. So I'll wait till we are home for good next month and will be up to my ankles in doctors visits I'm sure.

I have a high arch and can't find sneakers that compliment my high arch. I'm guessing the doctor will make me supports to put in my sneakers and shoes. I wear orthaheels a lot and really like them. I can get away with wearing them year round at home. I hope they didn't cause the problem though.

Why not try a store that specializes in running shoes? They make them now with all kinds of arch support. The longer someone runs, the more important the right shoe is to continued leg and foot health.

I bet you could find the perfect shoe at a specialty store.

I had gotten shin splints and after the correct shoes, the problem disappeared!

Congratulations on your walking plan. It does get to be fun after you make it a habit!
