I'll wear any socks except those that are 100% cotton.  They get soggy.  Nylon or a cotton/nylon mixture helps keep my feet dry.

Other than sandals .... I would never, ever wear shoes w/o some sort of hosiery .... socks, knee-highs, tights, trouser socks.

I used to wear crew socks with a fold-over cuff, but I switched to quarter socks & it keeps my ankles cooler without the extra layer of sock.  I never cared for the low cut or no-show socks since they always felt like when I was a kid & my socks would slide down into my shoes & I prefer my ankles to be covered.

@hckynut....the bottoms hurt after walking most notably  the 'fat' pad below the toes....yes I know horrible description but that's what it is...maybe a burning sort of pain, like the has been friction.  I do not notice the discomfort/pain until after the walk is over.

I will pick up some new socks but our weather is miserable again for the next week so I won't be able to try the socks out for a while.

I started walking again after I bought a Fitbit. I had to buy a new pair of sneakers. I just bought a pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS18.

My Ryka's just did not cut it for walking 4+ miles per day.

If you are not used to walking it will take a little time & or a new pair of sneakers.

Another vote for the Smartwool socks. They keep my feet comfortable year-round and helps prevent rubbing and gives a layer of protection on the bottoms of my feet. I can't walk without them. The bottoms of my feet hurt badly if I walk or hike without them.

I would definitely look into well cushioned sneakers from this description. Especially if a lot of walking is new to you.

I have always spent a lot of time on my feet but I had a brief period where my job wasn't as active. Went I went back to being on my feet all day I went through this. I would use burning to describe it too.

It's really something you will adjust to. Better shoes. Shorter walks for a while.

Long ago in athletics, especially walking or running there were no special socks and to avoid the friction we always wore 2 pair of socks!

@Mom2Dogs@Hi. I walk every day and always wear thicker white crew socks. I also have to remember to get new sneakers every 3-4 months as the support and treads wear out. How old are your sneakers/shoes? 👟

@Lisa Y, shoes are 3 years old....I only walk in the summer, the shoes still look like new, no worn spots, tears, etc.  Replacing the shoes never occurred to me.

Althetic shoes wear out from the inside out.  It's not the socks, it's the 3yr old shoes.
