Yesterday I called my gynecologists office to book my yearly checkup .... and got the invalid recording message! I googled him online, and saw articles that he retired last June! Never got a letter or even an email advising me of his retirement.
I called the Medical Center where he had his office and was told to call back tomorrow.
I will call today and would like find out if there is another MD his practice has been given to ..... or if it would be better to just get my own personal medical file and take it from there. At the moment, I have no physician preference, but of course will do some investigating.
Just curious if anyone has this experience ..... did you have any difficulty getting your personal file? Any feedback or suggestions?
TIA !!

I have only seen the situation where the office notifies you before closing shop so that you can pick up your records. I wonder where your records are being kept.

I don't remember what happened to our records. We were a lot younger, and didn't have any diseases ,so it really didn't matter

Hopefully they still have your records since it's been since last year.
My dentist of over 30 yrs retired & I was not notified. I found out when I called to make an appt. I asked about my records & was told they had already been destroyed.
My Gyn also retired so now I need to find another one. What a hassle. I'm sure I will have a hard time finding one that takes new patients.
My reg. dr does this but I'm not interested in doing this wellness with a reg. dr. I prefer someone that knows what's going on if I have a problem. My reg. dr. would not be able to do that IMO.
He did not even know when I had Shingles last year & I told him I was pretty sure that's what it was. Just because I was in a lot of pain with no rash does not mean it's not Shingles as he told me. He's only 35 yrs old but could not get in to see any older established doctors with experience when mine retired.

Our internist retired a few months ago and didn’t bother to notify his patients.
I called in one Firday, to make an appointment to come in so I could get a new prescription (that I get every year) for a maintenance medication I take.
It just so happened that that when I called in, most of the staff was in the breakroom cutting the retirement cake. He was literally retiring that day.
I gave them my thoughts on the lack of notification to us and that was that.
I found a new internist. I didn’t bother with our records as there was really nothing in them that would benefit the new doctor.

this has happened to both my Husband and Myself the past year. both our doctors retired. No big deal... we just found another internest. Your records just go to the new doctor. It is a fact of life. I find now at 62 most of the doctors are younger than I am anymore anyway.....

Unless you have a rare condition . I think that most things really aren't urgent. The Dr can mosl likely pull up the results of things like MRI and Xrays for a hosptial portal if they need to see them

My dentist is my age and still working, only 3 half days a week. None of the other two in his office are allowed to touch my mouth without is approval. LOL I fear the day he retires, and yet I know it's going to happen. He' old school and has repaired one tooth of mine with a bobby pin and duct tape (not really.)

This has happened 2x to my husband---he has no idea who he will see for his physical again. With me, while they didn't retire but moved on, it was my onologist and my heart dr, in fact , it was the newest heart dr that moved on as well. I did get notices about it. Would have been pretty upset if my onc dr left while I was in treatment. Not crazy about my new drs but they are fine--just personality things I think. My medical files are all online now so everyone can get them---slightly scary but true.
