Re: WELCOME TO THE JANUARY EXERCISE THREAD

@violet runner, I've had the best success with New Balance shoes but I sometimes use Nike, too.  I prefer long loose tops with leggings to workout in when I was in the gym three or four times a week.  That was pre pandemic, though.  Sat around during that bad shut down time and gained a lot of weight and haven't been the same since.

Speaking of leggings....I'm so glad we have them to workout in (along with the hip covering top) instead of what we used to where back in the day which was tights and leotards.  I wouldn't be caught dead it that revealing get up now, lol.

@Mmsfoxxie

Oh boy, you just caused a painful flashback. I had blocked out wearing tights and leotards to the gymn....with leg warmers too. That's a fashion I do not plan on revisiting.

Re: WELCOME TO THE JANUARY EXERCISE THREAD

Good morning!

@JudyL OMG--I used to wear a sports bra, tights and a 'thong' that went over the tights.  Back in the early 80s--it was unitards and leg warmers--worn to Richard Simmons Anatomy Asylums.

I do wear leggings and tank tops now.

I'm exhausted today.  I could barely walk yesterday.  My pinky toes have blisters, one of which apparently was bleeding all day yesterday.  I will say that I'm not as tired as I was yesterday and my feet don't hurt as bad.  I did pretty well at the comp, but I have to tell you, my partner and I got into it when I was bringing my stuff into the hotel and it basically ruined my day. I asked him to help me carry my stuff in.  Well, he came down in his ballroom shoes and there was snow on the ground so he couldn't help me until I got inside.  Then he didn't help me and I got snotty about it.  I didn't understand why he wouldn't at least help me carry some of the stuff up to the ballroom.  I got pisst and basically walked away and then he chewed me out and told me that his job wasn't to be my courier and that how I spoke to him was unacceptable.  I didnt ask him to carry everything while I walked beside him like royalty--I just needed a hand.  I told him that I could just pack up and go back home and he told me that he would be happy to withdraw me from the comp, but that he wanted to have a good day of dancing.  I had just paid a lot of money to compete, so I slapped a smile on my face and did my best.

But I'm having a hard time getting past this.  It literally destroyed my love of dance and I don't want to do it any more.  I'm not going to do any more competitions, but if I quit dancing, then I don't get to teach LaBlast.  I know I'm probably the jerk in this situation, but I'm having a hard time believing that he thinks he's too important to give me a hand with at least a bag or two when I have 50 pounds of ballroom dresses in my hands.

I hope you all have a good day!

Re: WELCOME TO THE JANUARY EXERCISE THREAD

HA! Leg warmers.. I was thinking about that this weekend as there was a trailer for a movie- 80- for Brady with Jane Fonda.  I had her workout book - not video or 8 track. When they interviewed Jane this weekend- ( she looks fabulous)  she said she still does those workouts but slower.

I am going to look when the new Spring wardrobes come out at dresses - golf and tennis ones included and see If I  can find a new look for myself. Lighterweight legging ( capri length to go with them..  I  would love a tunic vest with pockets for hiking and walking. If you come across something like that- please pass the info to me- thanks!

I am also gonna look at a new shoe brand.. I may go back to Saucony as @kate2357  has said she uses. I have a pr for hiking I like . And maybe a 1st pr. of Brooks. Yes, ladies, I am a shoe ******-!! Do love workout shoes!

Oh goodness - it's snowing again..  I drove to the rec center ( a 2 min drive) - going to until  this weather gets warmer and snow/ ice melts. I go at 5am and its dark and black ice can easily be missed.

   Happy Monday...

Re: WELCOME TO THE JANUARY EXERCISE THREAD

Well @DrKelli if I wrote what I would have said to that dance partner, I'd probably get kicked off the Boards.  Can you take a break from competitions for a while?  Possibly change dance partners?  Just trying to think of options as I know how much you enjoy it and how hard you've worked at it.  As far as you thinking you were being the jerk - oh please don't even go there. Just put that thought right out of your head.  No way were you being the jerk in this situation.  He's just lucky I wasn't there.....

Re: WELCOME TO THE JANUARY EXERCISE THREAD

Happy Monday. Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

@DrKelli Oh there is no question on who was being a jerk. He was displaying passive agressive baloney towards you. Some people can be jerks.

Sunday was a rest day for me. This morning I went on about a 2 hour hill walk w/ a neighbor. Boy does my backside feel on fire from climbing the Queen Ann hills here in Seattle.

Re: WELCOME TO THE JANUARY EXERCISE THREAD

@DrKelli - people seemed to be so into themselves these days..I have seen it time and time again and your "partner" seems pretty insensitive. It would leave a bitter taste in my mouth as well. Is this a partner you have frequently?? From your writings, you like dancing and La Blast etc.. I wouldn't let this deter you. Can always step back and evaluate  where you go from here. And adjust as needed.

Re: WELCOME TO THE JANUARY EXERCISE THREAD

Hey all, I forgot to check in on Sunday.  Didn't do to much still getting my workout room done, having to wait for hubby to do things slows it way down!

I did a Pilates chair workout today and it was very hard, and got frustrated as she had this nice chair and mine is ******.  Then did the rebounder with the walking poles.

We're gloomy now. Earlier the sun peaked out which was nice.  It was like look now because it will be gone in a blink and it was.

@DrKelli  wow what a jerk!  I'd be furious!  I don't hold back to well as I age!

My front steps are solid ice and humped.  I didn't know.  Took out Logan and almost went down on the cement.  Luckily I didn't throw out my back but I loaded the steps with salt now.

Keep on keepin on!

Re: WELCOME TO THE JANUARY EXERCISE THREAD

Thank you all.  This is the partner I've had for 3 years and we have great chemistry--people always comment on it after we perform.

I am not doing any more competitions this year.  I have 2 showcase commitments with him and I just paid for a bunch of lessons.  This is the first time he has acted like this and it has really taken me aback.  I can start over with another partner, but that would mean I would have to drive 40 miles one way to the other studio.  And the owner of the studio thinks this guy and I look so great together on the floor.

I'm supposed to have a lesson with him Wednesday because our showcase is a week from Saturday.  I just don't know if I can dance with him right now.
