Re: WELCOME TO THE APRIL EXERCISE THREAD

 It was a beautiful day here in CO yesterday..  I got some chores done and had walking on my mind.. I went longer.. and by days end I looked and had 8500 steps.  Not bad 5 weeks post hip surgery.. I am getting  closer to my goal 10,000 . See you got that yesterday  @kate2357 .  With my son's news of getting a divorce and all that going on, walking has been good for me.. My family genetics lean towards anxiety and I am not gonna let that feeling in.  Outside and moving is key for me.   In fact  I am planning my walk today.. I have to go grocery shopping first and then I think I'll drive to the foothills and walk there..

 Weekend will be college basketball- both women and men.. And I sure wish we had a baseball team to watch..The Rockies are pathetic and their home opener is today.. Not even on TV unless we pay.. How silly is that? A frightfully bad team and they want us to pay to watch..  No thanks.

   Have a good weekend.. I may go to a nursery on Sun.  There's an open house with a new one that opened.. See what they have. I enjoy walking among the flowers and greenery!

Re: WELCOME TO THE APRIL EXERCISE THREAD

Good mid morning, all.

@violet runner, you're doing really well.  So glad!

Well, this week, I've been doing things a little differently.  I'm doing ten or fifteen minute workout four or five times a day.  My eating is still in check except I bought a box of that Skinny popcorn from Amazon and I sometimes eat two bags instead of one.   If I ever get my water intake up, I'll consider myself as doing everything I'm supposed to.  I have to stay mindful.....mindful exercising, mindful eating and drinking.

Have a great weekend, ladies!

@violet runner

You are doing really good w/ your post surgery rehab/walking/hiking. Good on you.

@Mmsfoxxie

There are days I have to break up my exercises and I actually think it helps keep my energy up more than when I do 60-90  minutes all in one bite.

@JudyL

Hoping you are having less pain and are able to at least negotiate moving around your home easier.

@Laura14

Hope your work week wasn't too stressful and annoying. Weekend is here and maybe weather will allow you to get a nice hike in.

@bopper

Glad the snow storm is over for your area. Has the pain gone away from your tooth extraction? I am looking forward to watching the women's basketball and Mariner games this weekend.

I still don't feel good today (just tummy issues) so my activity has been limited to taking care of Jack and doing a bit of Cubii steps. Feeling very lazy.

Re: WELCOME TO THE APRIL EXERCISE THREAD

I have a question.  I was wondering if anybody knew whether those little devices -- I don't know what they're called --- but you can sit in a chair and just peddle your feet --- do any good for you as far as burning calories and giving you any health benefits??  I try and walk several times a week for about an hour but I don't feel this is enough.  I have been trying to do some stretching and exercises but I have no flexibility or balance any more and have quite a few health issues, in addition to having a bad back, ankle issues, etc.  So, I am really struggling with these.  I have asked my doctor about all of this and she says - just walk, but I don't feel this is all that I want.  Oh, I'm veering off the topic, I guess -- anyone have any experience with the device I am asking about??  Thanks!

Re: WELCOME TO THE APRIL EXERCISE THREAD

@AngelPuppy1

I have only used the Cubbi device and do think it burns calories and increases blood flow. But it does involve using your ankles. I would think any peddle device would engage your ankles. The Cubbii I have weighs about 20+ lbs and I have to bend over to slide it into position.

I believe there are less expensive, lighter wt under desk bike peddle devices on Amazon. You will want one heavy enough so it doesn't move around when you use it. It likely will require assembly.

My other recommendation would be to try fitting in shorter walks during the week. If you do 2-3 long walks of 60 minutes each, try to squeeze in 3-4 20 minute walks during the week. If your doc thinks walking is some lthing you can do...do more of it, just in smaller chunks. Even if it's just walking in place.

Good luck. I hope you find something that works for you.

Re: WELCOME TO THE APRIL EXERCISE THREAD

 Yesterday I walked a 3 mile path I haven't  been on in ages.. and then did anther mile later on.. It was a beautiful day and I was in the foothills on an old hwy so walking was easy. I got in 8600 steps which makes me happy..

NOW today we are in a high wind warning.. and it's starting to really  blow outside. Could potentially get gusts 100mph.. Geez! I have walked outside twice - it's not cold- and visited a friend.. but don't think I'll venture out again. Something about high winds- very un-nerving.

 @kate2357  agree- outside walking / exercising is the best ( at least for me)

 I still haven't bought my Merells yet. but getting close to doing so,.. And @Laura14  I haven't gotten a new step counter either.. I go back and forth if I really want one..  I do have a love/hate with this cheap one though.

 I watched an excellent women's Basketball game last night - Iowa and UConn..   Looking forward to the championship game tomorrow !

Re: WELCOME TO THE APRIL EXERCISE THREAD

@kate2357  hope you are feeling better today.

 The high winds came- right now calm- but windy later today too.

 The power company shut off power in several towns in anticipation of gusts getting to 100.  One small spark and a fire could occur. The 55,000 customers it effected are outraged. I have lived in CO a long time ( 70's) and  never had a company do that.  I get that they its good to be cautious- just seemed extreme- for those of us who still had power( near where they shut it off)- it could be our town/ city causing a spark and then a fire..  Hopefully they turned it back on before the stated time which was noon today.

   I did get out and walked in the wind.. Only about half as far as I have been doing-

 I could have gone to the rec center, but I don't  venture there on the weekends.

    The championship college basketball games  are set-  Looking forward to the women's game today. Tomorrow it's the men- then I will have college basketball withdrawal! HA!

 And I will try and see the partial eclipse tomorrow..   They have practically made a holiday out it.. HA!

   Have a good Sunday..
