Are you taking this vitamin?  D?  My doctor suggested it for building up bones. I may try it, to help with a few things I've read here.  I read that you should also should take magnesium with it. I guess, so it works better in the body.

Did your doctor tell you how much D3 to supplement?

I use the Cronometer app to keep track of my daily food and supplements.  (Great for calorie-counting, too.) So I knew how much vitamin D3 I was already getting on a consistent basis.  Because of this, my doctor told me that my D3 levels were fine (per blood work), but if I wanted to supplement for a little extra insurance (my mom had osteoporosis), to only supplement with 1000iu daily.  After tweaking my diet a bit with an Omega 3 nut mix, I got my magnesium levels up to or over 320mg daily, which is what a menopausal woman needs.  So I don't need to supplement with magnesium.

What research is indicating is that K2 is helpful to take with D3 to build bones.  My doctor gave me advice on how much K2 to take, also. Research is mixed as to whether a person should take D3 and K2 together.  For night now, I am taking both at lunch, as both vitamins are fat-soluble and need to be taken with a meal that has at least 11gm of fat. I also take my multi-vitamin and one calcium tablet at lunch, too, for this reason. (Both have magnesium in them.)  I will link the thread I posted on here concerning this subject in case you want to read it.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked about, but knowledge is power!  I am looking forward to reading the responses you get!

I take a good multi-vitamin with D and magnesium in it. I also take a magnesium supplement since it's an issue in my family. Magnesium is good for bones, bowels, blood pressure, heart, and more.

I don't like huge doses of supplements because they can be hard on the kidneys and are expelled from the body.

I take Vitamin D in the winter. It's good for seasonal depression too.

Just had the vit D talk with a DD.  She is in her 40s and has never had a blood test.  Wish them were routine.

It was very late in game when I found out I had very low levels.   Right now I am on a maintenance dose of 2,000.  Will see in June if it keeps me in normal range.

If you live in the northern half of the lower 48 then chances are you might have a low vitamin level. If you never go outside or wear sunscreen when you do, then you might consider taking vitamin D also. As for a magnesium supp, there are certain groups of people who might consider taking it b/c of particular conditions cause magnesium to get low otherwise a multivit/w magnesium will suffice.

ETA-

I'm on Evenity, a Rx to build new bone, and b/c of that I need to take all the supps relevant for healthy bones which includes vitamin D, magnesium, potassium, calcium and a collagen supplement. The only ones my NP suggested I take was the D and calcium. The others I take b/c they are vital parts of healthy bones and right now mine are in a rapid growth phase b/c of the Evenity.

Evenity can build new bone in 12 months and reduce the risk of new spine fractures by 73%.

My doctor tests Vitamin D levels in our yearly physical. He adjusts the level we take according to the blood work. He takes vitamin D himself. I use Vitamin D3. He said they gave massive doses of Vitamin D to hospitalized COVID patients.
