Always like seeing this type of info posted here. Many don't realize that Dr. Kenneth Cooper had these, and even better studies done, as far back as 1970.
He's written many books on the Psychological and Physiological benefits of movements of any kind, in relation to both of the above. That along with age and gender related differences involving all the data he collected from hundreds of thousands of participants over the decades.
Too many think when 30 or 60 minutes is mentioned, it has to be done in 1 session. Don't need to say anymore other than this is just another study backing up what has been known for over 50 years. Fortunately, media and others are now making it available, to easily access by more of the population.

@ SilleeMee....geesh, got on my treadmill today and realized the incline goes to 15% not 12%. I guess I am getting old.
Plus, I have a long way to go to get there!

My treadmill is old. It's one of the first ones Nordic Track made with the 40% incline. Plus I bought it used from a friend so I got it for a really good price. It has a lot of miles on it and sometimes the incline won't go down...it kind of jerks and then sticks. Hate for it to stop working b/c I really don't want to buy a new one. Probably need to look around for another used one soon. This one seems to be on the brink maybe. I'm sort of hesitant to increase it anymore b/c then it won't go down! Appears to be a one-way ticket to uphill only.

Is your Nordic one with the 2 separate tracks, or does it have a tread belt?
I bought my Trotter in 1984 and it is the same model used back then for Maximal Treadmill Testing. This was done using either the Bruce or Balkie(y) Protocols. Their max incline was 25%.
Using either Protocol not 1 person in all their testing got beyond 14% for the 3 minutes between speed increase, along with 3% incline increase.
I never went past 10% if I wanted both Cardio and more Quad Endurance. Running at a higher incline had the opposite effects when it came to gaining more Cardio Endurance for longer races. The higher elevation did help strengthen the Quads, but had diminishing returns for longer distance running.
Still have that old Trotter and it still works fine. I prefer my Sole Treadmill now because it has a 60" tread belt that is also 22" in width. Also has wider frame to stand on when I did interval running.
Hope your Nordic keeps on ticking as long as you want to keep using it.

My Nordic Track only has one walkbelt as far as I know. The friend who I bought if from takes care of the maintenance for me. I really know nothing about that sort of thing.

@SilleeMee ... Mine is a Nautilus T616, very nice and when my first one stopped working, it was a free replacement since it was under warranty. I could hardly believe it. My DH did all the phoning on that problem. The motor gave out. The replacement was a big step up since the other had been discontinued. Now I've had this one for years, but note: I never run on it. I use it for walking only and still have gone thru many pairs of shoes.
Before I ever had a treadmill, I had a regular Nordic Track and really liked it, however, my DH never quite got the hang of using it. So eventually it got sold.
I understand there's quite the market in used excersice equipment so good luck when it's time.

@hckynutjohn @Funny you mention 1970. This study is an analysis of one from 1970!
This is the title of the new study.

Everyone in this study was 46 years old.

DH and I walked three days a week at his cardio's recommendation but then DH had to have a cardio procedure that left him unable to do anything for six weeks...not even walk. Now it's bitter cold, but we try and go out when it is warm enough to stand it. I just hate when I can't go out and walk, it really makes you feel so much better. No matter what your age or condition, walking can be at any speed for any length of time, and it will still be good for you. Dr says as long as you are moving, it's beneficial.

This is the title of the new study.
Exploring the associations of daily movement behaviours and mid-life cognition: a compositional analysis of the 1970 British Cohort StudyThat study may have been done in 1970. The ones I mentioned were started around that point, and have continued to be done for all the years after. While terminology might have changed, the findings are the same. Anyone that has been into any type of middle or long distance training, knows these connections.I am sure you fall into the category of the title of this thread. Thanks for adding this for me.hckynut 🇺🇸
