Re: Very weird doctor question

I saw a new (to me) dermatologist a few weeks ago.  Naturally, I had to fill out pages of forms.  Those questions were included. In addition to wanting to know if I am sexually active, I was asked how many partners I have and whether or not they are of the same sex as me.   I don't even think my primary doctor has the answer to those questions, haha, but if my derm wants to ask, I don't mind answering.

They also asked what my pronouns are.  Everyone's so concerned with being PC.

I always found it odd that they would ask about your level of education.  Not sure what that has to do with anything.

Edited to add:  They didn't ask what my pronouns are, but what pronouns I prefer to be used.

I think the pronoun stuff is nonsense.   I wouldn't want to be asked all the pc questions and I would tell them so .

Exactly.  They need to know if you partake in what they consider risky behavior (not wearing a seatbelt, taking drugs, multiple sexual partners).  I don't know why some people get so indignant about answering these questions.

@Citrine1 I feel it's not being indigent as I don't see why they would need to know and I for one don't wish to be asked these questions and would tell them just that ..

Risky behaviors?  How would that impact a removal of a cyst on my scalp.  And, if that is what they were looking for, why didn't they ask how many partners I have been with, etc?

There is not much info you can gather asking the two questions...are you STILL sexually active....are your partner/s...male, female or both.

Having a relationship with someone is not risky behavior.

I am 100% going to question the doctor tomorrow. I want to know exactly why these questions are being asked.  I have a right to know.

This was not asked on an intake form or with my medical  history.  It was during a reminder for my appointment.  There were no other questions asked...not even what my visit is for.

How would you feel if you were asked these questions during a reminder for your appointment?  These questions have nothing to do with my issue or problem.

Gee, I hope my doctor doesn't participate in risky behavior like having sex with his wife or partner. I think since he is going to do surgery on me, I have to know....

@Carmie

Honestly, I think it boils down to potential infections and communicable diseases that people might not realize they are at risk for.

Years ago I had lunch occasionally with a woman who worked in a Gyno's office.

She didn't name names, of course, but rolled her eyes with the surprising number of women who "thought" they were in monogamous relationships and found out through a blood test that the husband was not monogamous.  Happens all the time.

Please let us know what answers you receive.

Re: Very weird doctor question

My Primary Doctor has me fill out a questionnaire every year.

They give you the questionaire as soon as you arrive and it must be filled out in it's entirety before the Doctor will see you.

It seems like every year, more questions are added. They are now probing alot of mental issues, living arrangements and activities in addition to your sexual habits.

My appointment is actually on Friday, not tomorrow.

You can bet I am going to ask.  I sure hope my doctor is tested and doesn't have any diseases he can pass to me, if that's his answer.

I can guess he will act surprised and will say he had no idea those questions are being asked.  I would win that bet, I am sure.

No one is going to step up and own that because they know it is not acceptable to ask in that manner time or place.  He is just one person and he didn't personally set this up to do this, but someone did.

You can be sure I am going to bring it to the attention of someone who should be responsible.

They send me so many e-mails to review their soctors and their services.  I am going to be honest and complain big time.

What you are describing appears to me the Medicare Wellness test.  The government put this test out there and Medicare pays a large fee to the doctor's to give this test.

I think when I am given the test this spring, I will say I am afraid to be be alone in my house and don't feel safe, I am having financial difficulties and I don't have enough food and I fall down a lot.

What is the doctor going to do with this info?  It's a waste of tax dollars.

My cognitive abilities are just fine, but maybe I will go to the appointment with two different shoes on the wrong feet and unmatched socks and with my shirt and pants on backwards. (sarcasm)

Re: Very weird doctor question

There are people who do not feel safe in their home, whether it be from a hazards, a deteriorating condition, or proximity to toxic people.

There are people who are lonely and no longer find joy in life.

There are people who are financially concerned and healthy food may be at a minimum.

There are people of all ages unaware or choose to engage in risky sexual behavior.

I hope if those in need, who answer honestly the questions asked by medical professionals, are able to get guidance in bettering their situations.

Re: Very weird doctor question

@Etoile308   I would hope they would get help too, but I highly doubt a doctor or anyone in his office is prepared to help them.

Every day they see people with dementia.  Besides turning them into the Dept of Motor Vehicles to have their driving license pulled, they isn't anything they can do.

Wirh the HIPAA laws, they can't even call their patient's loved ones to discuss this or even discuss this patient with anyone out of their office unless they have written permission.

If they owe a deductible or copay, they are going to bill them even if they have little to no money.  They aren't going to see that they get food or take them grocery shopping.

The program is very costly.  Medicare pays the doctor more for this visit than they do for a sick visit and for what?

I take my friend who has dementia to her doctor's visits.  I have to help her fill out the forms.  She hardly understands some of the questions.

No doctor has ever offered her anything that is helpful.

As I said, it is a waste of time, money and resources because nothing is done with the info that can help.
