Sounds like ghosts to me.
I have a house ghost, I'm pretty sure. This one doesn't seem to do anything too bad but I've had things disappear right out of my hand and right from my immediate environment, when nobody else was around and I hadn't move. It is frustrating, but this one just seems to mess with me in small ways like that.

Many articles on the net. Here's just one, with sources and links if you read it in entirety:

YOu should probably see an ENT Dr. It has something to do with your sinus.

I had the same thing happen about 10 months ago. I kept smelling some awful incense burning. It would come and go. When I went in for pre-op testing for hip surgery, they swabbed my nostrils to check for MRSA and sure enough - it came back positive for MRSA. I am what they call a MRSA carrier. I was put on antibiotics and the awful smell went away but recent nasal cultures still show as positive for MRSA.
I would mention this to your doctor. It could be nothing or it could be something serious. Good Luck. Gail

Could you be going through menopause? I am (I think!) and I have noticed that my sense of smell is acute and sensitive. Can't stand certain smells that have never bothered me before.

Years ago, I started smelling cherry pipe tobacco in our home. No one that we knew smoked a pipe...no one had been in our home with one. I told my doctor what I was experiencing, and he ordered an EEG. It showed that I was having non convulsive seizures. Once I was treated with medication, the odor disappeared.
That was my thought, NanciJ. I've know of neurological changes during migraine attacks (even without pain) causing this phenomenon. Also, some medications can create olfactory hallucinations (phantosmia).
Take good care of yourself, nantucket Âshore.
This was my first thought as well. Please see your doctor.(((((((((((nantucket shore)))))))))))

Only 3 so far and it's been a week so I'll keep track of this continues. Just too strange.
I've been under a lot of pressure since mom is so sick and just trying to do it all! Thanks for all the information.
Another issue is that I'm beating myself for not losing anymore weight with WW, really I'm trying to watch and count but getting into that "deserving" routine and that needs to stop. I think I feel so much stress with managing my mom's house, the business, my house and everything in between I'm feeling down and choosing the wrong foods. It's not like I go eat a whole bag of chips or anything like that, it's just foods with too much fat content in them. I sub some Smart One's and Lean C. once in awhile but those are all salt.
Need to make a day for myself and stick to it.

You should ask your doctor to refer you to a neurologist; they are best equipped to diagnose what's causing this.

Have you been using zinc lozenges or nasal swabs? They can change your sense of taste and I don't doubt, you sense of smell as well. It's temporary if that's the culprit.
