On the Thurs before I was feeling the beginning of my punk....I was at the salon, getting a perm. I too, don't care for the sink for hair washing. But for me this has gone on 3/4 months of this year already. But I do understand about the sink, it's the pits.

@Kachina624 Yes! Both times I did it it worked like a charm. I was dizzy for a week and a co-worker, moderator Kim, told me to look it up.  Thank you @Kim-QVC.  Cindy

I knew a few people (seniors) who had that problem.  One was from a boat (large) trip.  The other was from an imbalance in ear sacs, for whatever reason.  Another was cured by physical therapy moves.  Standing still, holding onto a walker; then focusing on an object across the room.  For a minute or so at a time, in the beginning.   The problem subsided in a week or two.  ........... Looking back, the focusing exercise seemed to work very well along with also taking 1/4 of a Bonine tablet (suggested by a doc).   Always start with a minimum dose, because often times it works just as well.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

@ROMARY, May 8 my first therapy session to see where that goes.  Thank you for your suggestions, but I'll see what's what first.

Been dealing with this lately. Saw the doctor yesterday and I'll be doing some therapy to help get the inner ear crystals back in order. This wipes me out and wears me out. So I'm hoping I can get this corrected and things back in order. I get so sick, for days.

Anyone else here, been dealing or have dealt with this?

I haven't read replies, but I will share my story.

I woke up one night with my world spinning, barely could crawl to the toilet and sat there doing you know what till my son and husband loaded me off to the emergency room.

After some meds, it slowed down considerably, but my life hasn't been the same since.

I went the traditional medical route and heard about the whole 'crystals in the inner ear' theory, and took the 'treatment' to supposedly make this go away.

Bunch of bunk. I have now dealt with it (although I know my trigger, and laying down on my left side is the biggest one....so I don't do that any more) for over 4 years.

After giving the regular medical community a chance to 'fix' this, I decided that being a life long believer in chiropractic to go there. I waited months, because I wanted to be sure if it was 'fixed' just which treatment worked.

I get much more relief from having my neck treated by my chiropractor than any other thing I've done. Even though I can't lay on my left side (ever) sometimes I can lay on the right side, and usually ok to lay almost flat on my back.

I now sleep in either a recliner or an adjustable bed, and I've learned when my vertigo is acting up, to not lean to the left too far.

Recently I have been having the bad effects since this started. I just have to keep up with how I'm feeling and get my neck adjusted before it gets out of control. My chiropractor said it is certain vertebrae in my neck out of adjustment that is causing this, and not inner ear issues. I take it he is more right than the MD's because he is the only one that has given me any kind of relief.

I sympathize with what you are going through, and hope you find some relief. I don't mean to discourage you, but I tried to do this without drugs (except for that first night in the ER) and have been able to do so. It does limit what I can do sometimes but seems to just be another thing I have had to adapt to with my crazy body. I've read that some people never get over this completely.

I also have occasional episodes with vertigo. When I first noticed it I went to an ear specialist and they did a lengthy test to make sure it wasn't anything serious.  Mine seems to be mostly positional.  The doctor gave me the instructions for the Epley maneuver and it really does work.

This is the maneuver I was prescribed initially and it did nothing for me, even after months. It was after this I went with the chiropractor.

Oh my gosh, MOnday, I'll discuss this with my chiropractor!!! I'm feeling hope reading this!! @Mominohio, thanks so much.  Funny thing is, in Jan., my right tendon went crazy in my shoulder. Was told not to lay on that side. It's still messed up, but wow, makes me think. Thanks so much to all for giving me your words of wisdom and experiences. Not ever having gone through this, it's really appreciated and helps me see some things I didn't know about. Onward and upwards, thanks again so much!

@qualitygalIt really depnds on what you are diagnosed as having. Since you mentioned crystals in the ear, I'm guessing you have BPPV. There are intricately linked syndromes and diseases that are all similar, from simple allergies on up to "broke head", like I have ,but the treatments can be different for each. I've known several people who have had success treating the crystals (it may come and go, but treating it alleviates it until it shows up again) Ménière's is different, and what works for BPPV may not alleviate any of it.
The vestibular thing, which I have, basically is just learning to manage the incredibly annoying symptoms, similar to Ménière's, but with Ménière's, sometimes people report that it goes away . I doubt I'm going to regrow a vestibulae, unless stem cells come into it. Chiro didn't work for me, I feel better when I'm not adjusted. I can't take things like antihistamines or other allergy meds as it makes it worse.

@MominohioMine is all right sided, now I know why. My left vestibulae is fully broken and the right side is minimally functional (minimal, like non existant, really, but trying to work) causing the spinning.

@qualitygal

Though I've only read several replies, I can confirm that the Epley procedure alone is not effective in many cases.  This information came to me through my work with ENT clinical research.

In my case, the absolute best treatment turned out to be Epley followed immediately by use of vibration therapy.  My first ENT used a hand-held device, placed it  about 4 cm above my left mastoid process and turned it on for about 10 second, then off.  He waited about 1 minuted, then repeated the process.  I was instructed to not turn my head, so driving back to work was always a challenge and had to sleep in a prescribed position the first night.

Having moved a few years ago to a new state and city, my new ENT doc just provided vertigo treatment for the first time.  He does not use a hand-held unit, but has a new chair with a rather large bowl device which vibrates.  The affected side of the head is placed in the bowl, he turned it on, instructed me to slowly turn my head to the right.  This was repeated.

I've been very fortunate to have what I call successful "vibratory therapy" every time an attack of vertigo requires treatment, for which I'm grateful.
