I take K2 in the morning as part of the other things I add to my yogurt (phytoceramides and silica). I take my D at night, prescription D2 on Mondays and OTC D3 other days. I don't currently take calcium. I was thinking that wasn't necessary since I use the silica. it's difficult to find calcium citrate without added D, and I don't think I need that with the doses of D I'm already taking which is what it takes to keep my D level where it needs to be. Plus, those pills are huge and hard to swallow.
I just had a bone scan and, for the 2nd time in a row, was given good results after previously being osteopenia. She also looked back and told me my hips have always been good which is where the trouble seems to start, so glad I didn't take any of the prescription bone medicine recommended.

I use K Force that I get from Amazon. I'm 70/very small boned and have only very mild evidence of osteoporosis.

Silica is no substitute for calcium. What the silica does is it helps form the collagen bonds found in bone tissue where the silica makes those bonds strong and durable. Calcium is part of the mineralization which occurs in the bones where collagen proteins harden to make the actual bones hard.

I eat kale, broccoli or Brussels sprouts every single day. Also blueberries, too.
@Mindy D ,
I also consume 5g of matcha powder daily. Green tea contains significant amounts of vit K.
Also cherries. Yum.

I have a couple of screen shots from a naturopath out of Cañada who posts her supplement rx's online at Lornahealth.com
Here is her discussion about creating bone mass.

Thank you for this!

I hope it helps clear up confusion for some! I find it difficult to remember all this stuff!

I want to say thank you, too! There is a lot of information out there, but some of it seems pretty consistent. I was recently told my first DEXA scan shows osteoporosis, so I've been trying to learn everything I can.

There are beaucoup supplements offering D3 AND MK-7 together. You don't have to split them up.

@Judaline , the original post asked about D3 & K2, not MK7. I was just looking at a D3 +K2 supplement Costco has on special this month. It's slightly more then the D3 I currently take, but I don't think that will be a problem. I haven't been taking them at the same time, but when I Google it, everything I find suggests they SHOULD be taken at the same time, but that calcium should be taken at a different time. However, you'll find a lot of calcium supplements with D. I had been taking my calcium (powder) and K2 at the same time since they are both powders and easily mixed into my yogurt.
