Thank you all for your knowledge about this!

I know for years I have taken calcium supplements with no benefit.

I am sick to death of hearing my PCP's urging me to go on that bone density drug "Alendronate" or something like that.
I tried  that once for a few months and my stomach couldn't take it., and I know some other chemical is missing in my body for the calcium to not be deposited in my bones!

It irks me to no end that the medical profession continues to rx cwap instead of fixing the underlying problem!

Alendronate is a bisphosphonate and like the others in that category of meds it does not build bone. Bisphosphonates only slows bone loss (anti-resorptive drug).

I think 200 mcg K2 may be excessive. Doctors Best also makes one with only 45 mcg per cap which is why I think 100 mcg is sufficient. Just my 2 cents, but then again I only take 4400 IU daily of  D3, my latest blood work was over 50.

I take Puritan Pride Bone Care, one per day and an extra dose of magnesium oxide.

Re: VITAMIN D3 TAKEN WITH VITAMIN K2

Has anyone here ever tried eating natto to get their K2 from a food source? It's supposed to be healthy but I have not tried it yet because the photos of natto online make it look slimey. It's a part of Japanese diets.

No, that is why I said I take the brand K2 that I do, it is not made from Natto.

@Mindy D

I eat kale, broccoli or Brussels sprouts every single day. Also blueberries, too.

Re: VITAMIN D3 TAKEN WITH VITAMIN K2

@Shelbelle   I will definitely start with 100 mcg.  As I mentioned, my Vit D level was 53.  I consider that "mid range", certainly not HIGH.

The integrative MD who originally got me on my regimen stressed not to be too high with the Vit D3 so about 53 seems right to me.  Thanks, again, and, yes, I prefer a plant-based source of the K2.

Linda, I think 53 is excellent, anything over 30 is considered good and most tested are usually under 30 unless they are taking a supplement. I know some who have tested in single digits.  I have read 10000 IU daily is the max dosage that is safe. Dont overthink it, you are doing just fine, I am sure your doc agrees. Do you also take calcium and mag ?

Re: VITAMIN D3 TAKEN WITH VITAMIN K2

@Shelbelle  Thanks for the "heads up."  With all the efforts I make trying to keep myself in top shape I'm glad my numbers confirm I'm A-OK.

Yes, I take magnesium citramate (with malate) and calcium.

As an aside, the prices of all the supplements/vits I take have increased at an astonishing rate!!

@pdlinda

I have been taking them for awhile. I take a lot of Andrew's vits and at 87, my blood work very good.  I had a complete workup, head to toe and in good shape.
