Re: Update on Prayer Request for my DH, Mr. G.

@Teddie  I firmly believe in the power of prayer so thank you for your compassion for my DH.  He's in a hard place, for sure.  Prognosis is not promising.

@RedTop      WOW, what a wealth of information you shared with me!

 THANK YOU.  THANK YOU.

DH began chemo this morning.  As I do not believe in coincidence, I used the following as opportunity to remind DH that God is active in his situation:

His old VietNam buddy (living across the country) also has cancer and gets treatment at his VA.  When last there, the friend talked with his oncology nurse, Mary, about DH's case.  Mary gave him reassurance that DH is in good hands, "will be OK."  This gave DH comfort, and when he repeated it to me this morning on the way to the hospital, choked up and finished with, "Everybody needs a Mary in their lives."

DH's oncology nurse's name is ....

Mary.

@IamMrsG  Oooh that gave me chills - definitely a powerful sign :-)

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

@IamMrsG,

I am very saddened to hear this diagnosis for your husband.

My husband is also a veteran of Vietnam, and as his health continues to decline, we are always fearful of a cancer diagnosis.   Blood cancers are in the top 20 cancers showing up in this group of veterans; with, or without Agent Orange exposure.   If your husband is not already receiving his healthcare thru a VA facility, I strongly suggest he meet with his local VA representative to look into filing a claim, based on his diagnosis.

Based on what my husband learned from our local representative, the VA is also expecting an increase in medical claims for several cancers in relation to the water contamination at Camp Lejeune, NC that came to light last year.

No amount of money will fix this medical situation for your husband, but if he has been diagnosed with one of the many cancers recognized by the VA in Vietnam veterans, there is a benefit attached to his claim, which he rightly deserves.

My very best wishes to your husband, and all who love him.

@RedTop  My husband did not receive help from the VA.  He tried, but was told that his dates of service didn't coincide with the dates that qualified for benefits.  Some of the drugs he took weren't covered by his insurance....they weren't approved.  We paid out of pocket and it was a hefty chunk.  Eventually, they were covered.  We are so thankful to God that those days are behind us.

My DH remembers them spraying a jungle area (Thailand) so that a base could be set up.  I am sure that wasn't healthy. Smiley Sad

We did luckily take AFLAC insurance years ago for CANCER and CRITICAL CARE.  I don't know if you are familiar with how that works.  We would submit EOB's to them and would receive a set $ amount for different procedures ie

transfusions, chemo treatments, etc.  This is over and above what our medical insurance paid.

@IamMrsG I know that this is a highly emotional time, not to mention a busy time.  One other word of advice I would like to pass on.  Look at ALL EOB's as they come in.  We were charged for procedures that DH didn't receive.  I am not saying it was on purpose, but clerical or human error.  We had a cap on what insurance would pay and this was important to keep a heads up on this.  Also, if something is denied, have them submit again.  I had to appeal a denial of a HUGE amount and eventually had it turned around.  This involved a lot of time and effort - something my DH couldn't handle at the time.  I feel for those that don't have an advocate.......and we saw many that didn't.

I am thinking of you and MrG today.  Monday is a big chemo day - at least it used to be.  I pray that the treatment they are giving him will arrest his disease and give him a remission.

Fear not Brothers and Sisters! I have read THE BOOK..........we win!!!

Re: Update on Prayer Request for my DH, Mr. G.

I feel guilty for letting this thread 'drop;' but, as ours is certainly neither the most urgent nor heartbreaking situation discussed in this forum, also for extending it.  I hope it suffices to say that my lack of participation here in no way represents a lack of appreciation for each and every one of your kind thoughts and prayers.

If you continue to hold us in your prayers, I'd like to ask you to include a mention of thanksgiving for the scientists, doctors and nurses who dedicate their lives to the benefit of those in need.  What I have seen lately humbles me.

Re: Update on Prayer Request for my DH, Mr. G.

I am not forgetting you, @IamMrsG.  You would be surprised how many times certain ones on these forums come to my mind and I pray. And that includes you. I know this is going to be a difficult time, in many ways, and it's important that you know many are praying with you. Hugs to you and your husband.

Re: Update on Prayer Request for my DH, Mr. G.

I am not able to set at my computer very long but wanted you to know that I am much in prayer for you and your DH.  I was thinking about a song today called, God Will Take Care Of You.  It's an old hymn I learned to play on my accordion when I was a child.  If I remember right it was one of my great- grandmother's favorites. I am sure you could find the lyrics on youtube.  God bless you both in special ways this week.

@jubilant  That is one I love as well. What a beautiful, encouraging song.
