I hope you feel much better by tomorrow.  Rest, rest, and rest!  Drink fluids! Hope the Tamiflu annihilates whatever you have.  (Tamiflu is made using Star Anise pods, something I find fascinating.)

@Kachina624   You said you got the vax -- Moderna, I believe.  Why didn't you get a flu shot?  Hope you get better soon.

I have never had the flu, but it sounds just awful.

I hope the meds work and shorten the duration of your illness.

Take care and feel better soon.

Re: Update on Flu

[ Edited ]

@on the bay @You might want to check to see which exact shot you had. There's more than one kind available for seniors. This way, you can opt for the other senior shot next year.

Quoted from the CDAc website:

What kinds of flu vaccines are available?

CDC recommends use of any licensed, age-appropriate influenza vaccine during the 2021-2022 influenza season. Available influenza vaccines include quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine [IIV4], recombinant influenza vaccine [RIV4], or live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV4). No preference is expressed for any influenza vaccine over another.

Quadrivalent flu vaccines include:

  • Standard-dose quadrivalent influenza shots that are manufactured using virus grown in eggs.  These include Afluria Quadrivalent, Fluarix Quadrivalent, FluLaval Quadrivalent, and Fluzone Quadrivalent. Different influenza shots are licensed for different age groups. These four vaccines are approved for people 6 months of age and older. Most influenza shots are given in an arm muscle with a needle. One quadrivalent influenza shot (Afluria Quadrivalent) can be given either with a needle (for people aged 6 months and older) or with a jet injector (for people aged 18 through 64 years only).
  • A quadrivalent cell-based influenza shot (Flucelvax Quadrivalent) containing virus grown in cell culture, which is licensed for people 4 years and older. This vaccine is egg-free.
  • Recombinant quadrivalent influenza shot (Flublok Quadrivalent), an egg-free vaccine, approved for people 18 years and older.
  • quadrivalent flu shot using an adjuvant (an ingredient that helps create a stronger immune response), Fluad Quadrivalent, approved for people 65 years of age and older.
  • A quadrivalent high-dose influenza vaccine Fluzone High-Dose, which contains a higher dose of antigen to help create a stronger immune response, licensed for people 65 years and older.
  • A live attenuated influenza vaccine (FluMist Quadrivalent), which is given intranasally. This vaccine is approved for people 2 through 49 years of age. Live attenuated influenza vaccine should not be given to people who are pregnant, immunocompromised persons, and some other groups.
  • There are many flu vaccine options to choose from, but the most important thing is for all people 6 months and older to get a flu vaccine every year. If you have questions about which vaccine is best for you, talk to your doctor or other health care professional. More information on approved flu vaccines for the 2021-2022 flu season, and age indications for each vaccine are available in CDC’s Table: U.S. Influenza Vaccine Products for the 2021-2022 Season.

Get your flu shots!  You don't want what I've got.  Worse today, headache, congestion, cough, body aches.  I did find a drugstore that has Tamiflu and I'll go pick it up about 3pm.  All the local Walgreens are out of it.

So sorry to hear @Kachina624 .   I read your post the other day hoping you were feeling better today.

I did get my flu shot about 3 weeks ago.  I was planning ahead for my Moderna Booster at some point.

I'm like you, except for work, I don't go anywhere other than the drug store or grocery store.  Even at my local library, I do the drive-up window to collect my reserves or return items.   I pretty much stay home or I wear my KN95 mask when out.

Take care of yourself.  Hopefully the Tamiflu will help.   It's scary not knowing if we have flu or Covid.   And if you feel rotten, it's hard to go get a Covid test.

You're like me... I have to do all the errands when I'm sick.   It's a shame you have to go out to the drugstore.

Be well and rest.   Hope you feel better in the next few days.

Thank you @Mindy D!

I didn't know there were so many!

I will find out.

@on the bay @When I go in to get my shot I'm going to ask for Fluzone Quadravalent. The high dose shot for 65+ persons. I don't want the adjuvant due to a gut level feeling I have about the adjuvant. Did you know that none of the vaccines are very good at preventing the influenza A, especially in those 65+. The vaccines are better at prevention of influenza B.

Wow, @Mindy D!

I did get the fluad quad (the one with the adjuvant! And I didn't get that 2 years ago when I had no reaction at all. So good to know this if I get one next year!

2 years ago I got the "inactivated recombinant hemagglutinin Quad (Flublok)-Z23"

The first I got at the drs, the 2nd at CVS.

Anyway, thanks so much for all this good info!
