It's NOT a trial --- it's just Small Claims Court. I have the worst fear of speaking in front of people --- but I went to Small Claims Court a couple of times ---- so easy!!!!! You speak for less than 5 minutes while looking at the judge. Hopefully, that mean cop won't show up. Remember - this will affect ur car insurance -- but, most of all, u need to stand up.

Someone very recently wrote here (in all seriousness) that speed laws are not meant to be enforced they are only a suggestion. Another person could not understand why everyone isn't going 55 MPH by the end of the entry ramps onto the highway or why they stop if traffic is coming in the lane they need to merge on to. It is very seriously frightening! my parents were killed in a traffic accident - the other car was traveling 85 MPH in a 35 zone - so I am pretty appalled by the things I often read here.SPEED. ALWAYS. MATTERS. Laws were made for YOU...to protect me. No one is above the law....but it seems that a few on these boards think they are. I'm beyond stunned by these comments. SMH.
The SUGGESTION!! Yes, I remember that!!! Total idiots that don't own up to their mistakes (speeding)....easier to blame the "big, bad policeman" that will....someday save THEIR life.
HH I'm so sorry to hear about your parents. Saddening. I worked with a gentlemen in the '80s whose parents were killed on Christmas Eve by a drunk driver, speeding, going the opposite way on the road. I personally didn't know them but to this day, it still holds an impression upon me. So, yeah...I'll be pretty opinionated about this topic. What a waste of taxpayers money & court time to "fight a ticket". You broke the law. You pay. End of subject. But once you label yourself a "victim", people will come out of the woodwork to cuddle you. Misery loves company. SMH.

I'm a confirmed speed addict. I've gotten several tickets in my day and an equal amount that I was sent away with a warning. With the exception of 1 time, all of my tickets have happened when I was simply trying to get to work on time. It seems cops always sit on highways at rush hour so they can ticket those of us who get up and go to work everyday which contributes to the economy and BTW helps fund their paychecks.
Honestly, if I had my way, cops would spend more time working cases of the more egregious variety, like those of drug dealers, murderers, thieves.
When I retire, PA is going to missing some major $$$$ cuz I won't be getting anymore tickets. I sure hope they have budgeted for this shortfall.

Why not just leave earlier instead of always speeding?
After all, the police are simply trying to keep the roads safe, and speeding isn't safe.
Yuban, I know you are right about leaving earlier. It seems when I get up earlier I always try to fit too much into that extra time and wind up leaving at almost the same time anyway.
Other than bumping into my own tree in my own driveway on a slippery night (no I wasn't speeding) I have an excellent driving record.
I think the main reason for speed traps is for cops to make money. JMHO

Yuban - No, in many instances police are NOT simply trying to keep roads safe by catching speeders. It is a money game and it is wrong. Sneaky speed traps in areas where speed really does not matter? It's all about the $$. Speeding matters in NEIGHBORHOODs and school areas.
I got my first ticket ever last month and the cop was *$$. I was furious. I would like to take it to court and have my say, etc. But, the judge would rule in the policeman's favor. I paid an attorney to plead it down to a non-moving violation.
But, I will say that this completely altered my view of police forever. That cop was so horrible. Where I worked for years, we gave free breakfast to all policeman. Happened to be in that same district. I regret every single free breakfast. I will never, ever offer that again. They can pay like anyone else.
Yes, I am bitter and no, I know it is something I will eventually put behind me.
I hear ya. It's a money making game 90% of the time, it has nothing to do with the safety on the road. In my 35+ years driving I've had a couple moving violations. Back in the 1990's I was able to question the officer when I appeared in court for a violation that occurred in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic. I actually caught him in a lie- the judge acknowledged it as well- even commented that I should consider law school! But he still sided with the officer and I was found guilty. The way I was raised, once dishonesty is proven the officer's testimony should have been mud! But it really isn't about right and wrong, it's about 'the old boys network' and making money.
Amen!
Yup. It's all about the money.
