Re: UC Berkeley Study on Cellphones & Cancer

I keep our cell phones out of our bedroom and bathroom.  When we are ready we will take a look to see all the frantic activity from those who were desparately trying to reah us while we were asleep or taking care of business in the bathroom. and...usually it's phising scams, telemarketers or from a doctor's office with information we're already well aware of beause we use their portal.   Cat Surprised

Yeah. Cell phones use non-ionizing radiation and it's harmless in every legitimate study I've ever seen. As to the increase in brain cancers. Treatments have improved a ton in recent years and even glioblastoma, one of the most deadly, now has a 22% five-year survival rate for those in the child-bearing years.

With improved treatments come people surviving brain cancers (and other cancers) and passing on a genetic tendency for them to their children. Very young children can get brain cancer with no use of cell phones. It's often something they're genetically predisposed to acquiring. If they die young they can't pass on that predisposition. If they overcome cancer and have kids they can pass the predisposition on. The better we get at treating cancer the more likely it is more people will get it because of them surviving and passing on that predisposition to their kids.

You're apt to see every cancer that's treatable these days grow in numbers because of that. The alarmists will look to the environment (cell phones, microwaves, pollution, etc.) as the cause, but the reason there will be more cancers is simply that those predisposed to it got cured and were able to pass on the genes instead of dying from their cancer. The better we get at curing childhood cancers the more children will get childhood cancers going forward.  Those cured can now pass on the predisposition. It shouldn't be a shock or surprise to anyone. It's common sense.

The "the sky is falling!" types will blame everything under the sun and demand the world all be changed, but the reality is the better we get at treating cancer and saving lives, the more people will get cancer. People who would have died before passing on their genetic predisposition to cancer will live long enough to pass it on which means their children or their children's children will be more predisposed to it also. It's all common sense and makes sense. You don't need a complicated reason why it's happening.

Interesting they say to use earphones? My DH has  a skull malformation and was told to never use earbuds as they are dangerous for him. Avoid Bluetooth. (hard to do; it's everywhere)
have been hearing the dangers of radiation for years, but they keep building 5g cell towers next door to schools and daycare centers. Genius.

My nephew sleeps with his cell phone under his pillow in case his work calls. I told him he is off the clock so move it!
