I was travelling with a friend who takes thyroid medication. She felt all hot and sweaty.

When she got home she found out her dr. office had called and her thyroid levels were off and she need a medication adjustment.

Cherry: You are supposed to take thyroid medication in the morning  as per directed by pharmacist.

I aksed my Dr if I could take it at night on an empty stomach, and she said it was ok

The pharm wants to make sure people are taking it on an empty stomach. That is why they say morning

I got a call from my Dr and they said my labs came back normal. I have an appointment to see her on Fri.  I told them, in the meantime, I am not taking my Armour Thyroid.

If I am fine , in between times, I will ask her to change  my thyroid meds. That, and my metformin is the only thing I am taking.

One thing I've had a problem with with medication is sometimes the "filler" ingredients cause me problems.  The pharmacist has ordered my medication from another manufacturer if it's generic and every time, it fixes my issue.

I had this problem especially with BCPs.  When I was on the brand, I had no issues.  When they switched me to the generic, I had the worst GI problems.  I moved back to the brand at the direction of the pharmacist, and my problems resolved over night.

Have you tried seasoning your food with Tumeric?  The seasoning is suppose to work better than the capsules from what I've heard.  I don't know if there is a recommended amount you are suppose to use daily.  I recently bought a jar and roasted some cauliflower with oil, salt, pepper and tumeric and it was delicious.  Hopefully I will have some relief from inflammation soon!  I'm trying to incorporate it on a  daily basis. At the very worst, I have a new spice to play with.

I also tried glucosamin and had pretty intense digestive problems.  Perhaps it's not the tumeric capsules.

@rcfan  The problem with only using turmeric as a seasoning is that one would never get the required amount w/o ruining the taste of the food they're eating.  One  needs to consume 1200 - 1800 mg. daily.  My DH and I take the standardized powder capsules from Vitacost - 800 mg. in the AM and 800 mg. in the PM.  If one wanted to use the dried seasoning, they would need to consume 1000 - 3000 mg. daily.  No one would ever be able to use that much on their food everyday.

Open the capsule and sprinkle only about 1/3 - 1/2 of it on your food and mix it in well. That's what I do with my morning cereal. You can close the capsule back up so you don't waste it.

Taking a whole capsule causes me internal grief too - my esophogus and stomach feel like they are burning. So I go the partial route and I'm good. Give it a try.

Or, if you can find them, try turmeric TABLETS. I had no trouble with tablets. I used to buy them at CostCo but the company that makes them has also gone to capsules.

@sandraskates how much is in your capsules?  We need 1200 - 1800 mg. of turmeric daily.  It doesn't sound like you're getting enough.  I agree on the tummy issues though.  We split our dosage, half in the AM and half in the PM, after a meal and taken with a large glass of water to make sure it goes down all the way.

Hyaluronic acid capsules also work well for osteoarthritis, and don't irritate the tummy like tumeric can.

Check Amazon for brands, prices, and user reviews.

It's recommended that people take any supplement, o.t.c. med, or RX med. with a bit of food and/or some milk, especially if you have GERD or a tendency towards heartburn or indigestion.

Unless it's indicated on the label that the efficacy would be greatly diminished.

@cherry:

Tumeric/curcumin is an anti-inflammatory, but there are other safe natural herbs you can take in supplement form and/or cook with - especially ginger and garlic.
