Just did some reading and it is not recommended to take Turmeric with Tamoxifen (and other meds). It can possibley negate the anti-estrogen effect that Tamo has. No one knows for sure but to be on the side of caution... As a BC survivor, I need to be extra cautious about what I take.  Too bad cause I wanted to try this!!

Is it the turmeric or the black pepper often paired with it in some brands. I have heard black pepper can interfere with some medications

Good to know. I think I will be taking Tamoxifen or another aromatase inhibitor as soon as I finish radiation therapy.

Re: Turmeric and Tamoxifen

[ Edited ]

I found this 'conclusion' from a NIH publication, dated Mar 2019:

"5. Conclusions

This was the first study that investigated the influence of curcumin (with and without piperine) on tamoxifen pharmacokinetics. The use of curcumin (with and without piperine) significantly decreased tamoxifen and endoxifen pharmacokinetics, especially in EM patients. Patients may be deprived from optimal tamoxifen treatment, and endoxifen plasma levels may even drop below the threshold for treatment efficacy. Therefore, patients should be advised to stop curcumin use during tamoxifen treatment, or treatment efficacy of tamoxifen should be adequately monitored."

If you want to read the full article (lengthy and highly technical):

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6468355/

ETA - Curcumin is the active component in turmeric. Also, the abbrev 'EM' mentioned above stands for extensive metabolic (phenotype).

Ask your pharmacist about it, too.

I'm guessing you don't listen to Andrew Lessman speak about Tumeric. It is one of his "specials" today! I'm sure he said his does not interfere with anyone's medication. I would call his customer support, while they are still open today, and ask them. They are highly knowledgeable in all areas, and very well trained!  Andrew Lessman is very particular, and wouldn't have it any other way. 1-800-800-1200

A janky call center for a vitamin salesman wouldn't AT ALL be biased.

Just read similar information on the Mayo Clinic health page.  A good place for information, they agree with your decision.

Best wishes.
