Travel (flying) with Libre glucose system

I will be flying on a trip soon. Does anyone wear this Libre sensor to monitor your blood sugar? Can you go through TSA wearing it? Thank you for sharing your experience & tips!

Re: Travel (flying) with Libre glucose system

@MOMMAVik  Good Morning!  This is what I found researching this:

If you're wearing an insulin or continuous glucose monitor, you won't have to remove it to go through security. But because X-ray machines can damage your device, the TSA recommends you ask for a pat-down inspection. If you're using a continuous glucose monitor, make sure to bring its charger.

If you choose to go through an airport body scanner, you must remove your insulin pump and CGM (sensor and transmitter). Do not send your devices through the x-ray machine as an alternative.  Hope this helps! Smiley Happy Happy safe travels

Thank you @eadu4! I will check the TSA website. I think you have given me great info & I appreciate that! Haven't traveled anywhere in over 5 years & only been wearing that system for a few years. Thanks again!

Could you get a medical "pass", like for hearts?  It should ease your way to have something to show.

@MOMMAVik We didn't fly, but just went thru security to get on a cruise.  My boyfriend wears a Libre sensor and an Omni Pod insulin injection system.  His sensors set off the security and he was pulled over for a full body scan.

My guess is you can wear it, but you will need to let TSA know as you will set off the alarm.

Hi @cindyNC, good to know but sorry your boyfriend had to go through that! Quite a few years ago I got pulled aside because I had a small ice pack chilling my insulin in my carry on bag. All was ok; he said that it is sensitive to liquids?!

@Still Raining, Thank you. I am going to send a MyChart note to my Endocrinologist to see what she thinks.

I get a TSA pat down simply because I have an artificial knee.  It's not a big deal though.

You absolutely DON'T have to remove your Libre sensor!! That's insane! Just tell them what you are wearing and ask for a personal pat down. Call the airport/airline and get the truth from the source. Wow it drives me crazy when I read mistruths.
