Tourettes Syndrome

Today I was sitting my car after grocery shopping. I was just sitting in the car waiting to pull out of the parking space.

I looked over to see a very stylish, very well dressed young man about 25 years old.

I'm almost sure he had a very, very bad case of Tourette's Syndrome.

I know a little about it. One of the reality shows I watch the female has a mild case of the syndrome.

Also, my daughter worked on summer in high school with a young man who had it. It was at a water park. At the time I didn't know much about it.

I walked up to the young man and asked him if he knew where my daughter was. He started yelling curse words like crazy. I didn't know what to say so I walked around him and found my daughter.

I was so upset, surprised, I could hardly tell my daughter what had happened. She started laughing. She said, "Calm down mom! You just met Jimmy. He has Tourette's Syndrome. He can't help what he says, it's part of his disease."

When she came home that day she told me all about it. Then I looked it up and learned more.

OK so I sat in my car and saw a sight I will remember forever.

This young man was jerking every part of his body. He stood, twisting, hands waving around, obviously unable to move.

Finally he twisted his feet and his body sideways. So he eventually ended up hopping sideways into the grocery store's automatic doors.

I wonder what people in the store thought as they saw him hopping, twisting, hands waving. I don't mean to sound rude but his body was much like those blowup things you see at car dealerships.

I wonder how he's able to drive a car. He was obviously alone.

I had so much praise for him. It must be difficult and time consuming to go anywhere and move about doing the same things we take for granted.

I have a really good friend that works there. Next time I go I'm going to see if he had contact with him.

@Annabellethecat66 Why would walk up to a complete stranger in a parking lot asking if he knew where your daughter was?

@Mz iMac Perhaps you missed the part where I said he and she were working at a WATER PARK.

I don't know where you got your information from.

I never said it was a parking lot where I asked the kid if he knew where my daughter was.

Once again, hummm........

Perhaps you should re-read it or on second thought why not pass on it.

@Annabellethecat66 I've read a number of articles about this and I don't believe that the body twisting is Tourette's. There are many other possible neurological causes.

Your first paragraph......

No mention of a water park till a few paragraphs down which menitoned "summer."

Somehow, I have no clue how, videos of a young girl with Tourette's Syndrome showed up on my Facebook video feed. Thr girl's name is Baylen Dupree. She tries to explain things about her condition/illness and show how it's manifested even in the smallest mundane task as she goes through her day. It occurred to me that the constant body movements and ticking must really physically wear out the individual on a daily basis in addition to enduring the stares, sneers, and ignorant comments.
