Total Gym Vs. Aero-Pilates.Which is better??

Ladies ~ I have the areopilates bench x10 years. I am wondering if the total gym is a better workout, i.e., because of the incline and pullup bar, etc.

TIA!

Have had and Aero Pilates, but now have a Pilates PremierXP and have had my Total Gym 2000 for close to 20 years.

Which one is best for you? Depends of what you are setting for your goals. Generally speaking, I would say that any Pilates is, again generally, preferable by the female gender. The male gender however? Most of the ones I now prefer the Total Gym.

Thanks, hckynut! I will stick with my pilates. I have injured my foot and can't run, so pilates and the cardioboard will be good enough for now.

I have both as well. But since I upgrade my Aeropilates with a rebounder, that is my preference. I do lots of other cardio, strength and flexibility work...like to change things up. My fave though is my Aeropilates. As I can do Pilates, Pilates and rebounding, or just rebound if I am short on time. Love it!!!

Survivedone ~ Thanks for the input. When you use the rebounder, are you supposed to angle your head on the rest or lay your had flat? I put my head on an angle. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your foot injury. As a former runner of over 1,000 races, I very well understand a runners feelings when they are injured. Not many that I didn't have over the decades.

I however have 2 machines that can be used regardless of an injury on either the upper or lower part of the body, and I am talking for both cardio and strength maintenance or improvement.

The NuStep is an expensive machine that can be used unilaterally with 1 leg/foot/hand or arm. If one side is injured you use the other. If the injury is to the upper body I used the machine only with my legs, or leg if it is injured. With this I was able to maintain my cardio fitness regardless of what part of my body was injured.

Not sure I would be using my Rebounder if I had an injured foot, but it depends on where and the degree of the injury.

The other machine is my Pilates PremierXP. If it is my upper body I can use the rebounder for my cardio and lower body injury just the upper body muscles.

Best to you in getting back to running if that is your sport of choice.

You are most welcome. I use separate neck pillow as I do my rebounding using the dvds as I like keeping time with Marjolein. With the rebounding on the DVD, she uses different foot positions, refounding with one foot, two feet...various combinations. It also results in amazing core workout. If I didn't have the separate neck pillow, I would most definitely rebound with the headrest flat. The neck pillow has a bump in it to support the neck, the headrest does not. When you are rebounding, to have the headrest raised, think you would put tremendous strain on your neck. I wouldn't recommend it raised whatsoever.

hckynut ~ Thanks again for your input...I have been a runner for 30 years. Then three years ago, I had sciatica...it healed after 8 months...then 3 weeks ago I had a pinched nerve on the top of my foot and I am not to walk on it....my chiro thinks I can get back to running...when, don't know...so of now I am on these boards and resting. If I don't heal, I will look into the Nustep....

Survivedone ~ Thanks for your input! I have that DVD too, but could never tell if the headrest should be up or down.....will see if my foot can tolerate the workout!

Re: Total Gym Vs. Aero-Pilates.Which is better??

I find the rebounding awesome on the feet, knees, joints. Its surprising how fast your heart rate rises, the lower body and abs workout. I have several levels of the integrated DVD's as well as the rebounding only. The rebounder is much better than I ever anticipated it would be.
