My dentist said that a filling in the tooth works like an a wedge. When it is pushed down hard enough, it will split the tooth and fracture it. Usually the fracture is a hair line and does not show up on X-rays.
My dentist removed the old filling and replaced it with a new one and I felt immediate relief. He said that if he did nothing and I continued to bite with that tooth that it would eventually crack the tooth in half.
I am not a fan of most doctors, but I love my dentist. He is really good and quite knowledgeable and he doesn’t rip anyone off by doing unnecessary work.
my brother had a root canal procedure, but the whole nerve wasn’t removed. Years later it flared up again and he lost the tooth.
That makes a lot of sense , one of the molars does have a small white filling. I will have to ask my dentist about this .😺

Many years ago I was having terrible tooth pain. I went to the dentist, and he did a root canal in that tooth. He did say it wasn't bad but must need the root canal at that time. It's the only root canal I've ever had.
After the root canal my tooth still hurt. We finally figured out I was clenching my teeth at night. Could you be doing that?

I bit down on a popcorn kernel once and had pain in two back teeth for quite some time. Made several trips to several dentists, and not one of them could find the problem.
It took about two years, as the tooth started to separate and become EXTREMELY sensitive, before the crack was diagnosed. It was a wisdom tooth. Lost that tooth and the one right above it.
A week or two after everything healed, I was chewing on that side and got the same pain. Another cracked tooth! The one next to the wisdom tooth. Either both teeth cracked when I chomped down on the kernel, or the other tooth cracked when the wisdom tooth was being removed.
Ended up with a crown on that one. Every once in a while it's sensitive. But, it's been holding for about 7 years.

I was a dental assistant for 30 years and the #1 culprit for fractured teeth........pop corn kernals!!!!! Many times the nerves in our teeth can become sensitive for one reason or another and then end up calming down. Fractures do not always appear on xrays. I commend the dentists that are not just doing root canals on anyone that has a little discomfort, many times they are not necessary. Remember there are an awful lot of nerves in the jaw and all around the dentition. And yes, even if you've had a root canal that tooth will still have some "feeling" from the nerves around it. As others stated sometimes it 's just night time grinding that causes sentsitivity.

@LindaSal My dentist always says that popcorn is one of the worst things for your teeth. I try not to eat it anymore, but it's so good during a snack attack! I have two implants and I know they're the result of me eating hard candy, popcorn, and other junk throughout the years. But I went through the same thing with sensitive teeth and finally xrays showed the fractures. (sigh)

@WalkingGirl Unfortunately the older we get the older our teeth get too!! ( LOL) I really try to be more aware of what I eat and chew more slowly and carefully. I have an implant also due to an accident I had in my younger years. All you can do is take the best care of them you can. Brush, floss and listerine are the secrets to good dental health. I told my kids growing up that not flossing is like taking a shower and not washing your hair!! It worked because they are now in their 30's and do not have one restoration in their mouths.(LOL) I plan on taking mine with me
(to my grave).

I used to eat corn nuts until I bit down on one and had tooth pain in one of my molars. Nothing was wrong with that tooth, no filling or anything. It hurt every time I bit down on it so I went to the dentist and he found the molar was cracked. He put some kind of 'glue' in the crack and that took care of the problem.

Thank you ALL for your replies, i appreciate you taking the time. If it continues I will see my dentist and hope he can get to the bottom of my problem if possible . It would sure be great if it went away on its own though😏. Oh and I am using sensodyne toothpaste , I know a couple of you mentioned that.

@LindaSal Funny you say that about the jaw and nerves as I was thinking today that it might just be my jaw and it is referred pain to my 2 molars . I say that because during the night I noticed my jaw being very sore and also throughout the morning as well. So perhaps when I bite down on the seed it irritated my jaw and I'm thinking it was my teeth. In your experience could that be ?
