To poster who had a bad reaction to Lisinopril (a bad cough)

Did you get this reaction right away? Or was it a cumulative thing? Did you also have a facial rash, a sore throat and hoarseness?

I have had these symptoms for quite a few months now, I started the Lisinopril over a year ago. These symptoms are getting worse. I was beginning to think I had lupus, and I am calling the doctor on Monday to make an appt. I'm starting to believe I am having a reaction to Lisinopril as well.

Share your concerns with your doctor. He/she can change your BP med

Beta blockers can cause people to cough terribly. Talk to your doctor about it and perhaps he/she can prescribe a non beta blocker medication.

Some (not all) BP meds can cause a dry cough for a short time. It doesnt last long.

You could call a pharmacist and ask about the side effects of your med. Or, google it.

As my post indicated, I am calling my doc tomorrow for an appointment.

I was just hopeful I could perhaps find that poster today to talk to in the meantime.

Re: To poster who had a bad reaction to Lisinopril (a bad cough)

I have had an enormous amount of mucus in my throat for at least 1 1/2 months. I went to the allergist and he said he thought it was due to indigestion. I have since found out that some Drs are blaming this problem on that.

I did some research on my own and suspect it might be something called CANDIDA ESOPHAGITIS (Esophageal Thrush).

I take a lot of medicine that makes my mouth so dry that it is difficult to talk! I also take a pill (prescription) that increases the amount of saliva in my mouth. The pills help and I've been told this increase in mucus is not due to the pills.

I will now go to the dentist (who is treating me because, due to dry mouth, I've had an enormous amount of cavities). I am hoping he will write me an antibiotic that will get rid of this Candida.

The interesting thing is that I take 4 Amoxicillan (500 each) 1 hour before I go to the dentist and 2 pills 1 hour after every time I go. I haven't been in awhile so I guess I'd better get myself back in there.

Just look into it. I don't know if it is what I have but I haven't had a fever, no sore throat. The coughing is because I am trying to clear my throat. I can even hear the noise my throat makes when I breathe. I sound like a smoker (and I've never smoked)! My voice isn't harsh, just the sound, like Darth Vader in Star Wars!

I have had a chronic cough for many, many years (not a smoker). It's the facial rash which is getting worse, the sore throat and the hoarseness that is concerning me more.

On the pharmacy leaflet, it does say that allergic reactions to Lisinopril include cough, rashes specifically on the face, sore throat and hoarseness. I always thought allergic reactions came on quickly, but perhaps they can come on slowly as mine have. The Lisinopril works wonderfully to control my BP, but if I have to come off it, of course I will.

Re: To poster who had a bad reaction to Lisinopril (a bad cough)

I was taking lisinopril for maybe a year and got a cold with a cough. The cough didn't go away when the cold did. It wasn't a bad cough, but needed a cough drop to stop it. The Dr said it was the lisinopril. I was switched to micardis and had an allergic reaction right away, but it went undiagnosed for six months. Saw different Dr's, took lots of tests and pills before they said it was an allergic reaction to beta blockers.

Ford..I coughed continuously on linsinopril.. I was changed to another med and no cough. It is a common side effect my dr said. If it lasts for more than a couple of weeks, see your dr. You are wise to go in

You can have an allergic reaction to any med at ANY time no matter how long you've been taking it. You should see your doctor as soon as you can. If you have facial swelling or trouble breathing you should be seen immediately.
