Re: To anyone that understands coding in the medical field

@chrystaltree- patients don't understand coding, or the whole medical process for that matter, it's gotten so complicated.  That's why I hesitate to even respond to some of these questions.   There is SO much misinformation out there.

They would also be very surprised to see how little payment the drs actually get from the insurance companies.I just got an EOB from my insurance, HMO Medicare.  The bill was $305 for office visit.  My insurance paid $26 (they discounted $228 from the charge), and I paid $50.  The dr only got $76 total and I paid twice as much as the insurance.  Plus I have the regular monthly premium from Medicare.  What's wrong with this picture??!!!

I don't know about anyone else but my insurance (bcbs) pays for my yearly well visit exam only. Blood test are on me to pay whatever is left after my insurance picks up. Always has been this way even when I had another insurace.

Re: To anyone that understands coding in the medical field

I am on private insurance and it's called Preventative.

If you are on insurance that calls it Wellness, then you would indicate Wellness.

But it's up to the doctor how it's coded, as another poster mentioned.
