Lessman's Healthy Hair Skin Nails has been a favorite of mine.
Started taking 2 a day in January. 4 months later, my hair stylist noticed a lot of 2 inch hairs, evenly growing, on my scalp. Hair grows about 1/2 a month for most, so it was working!
I come from a family of eye care docs, so was always taking various lutein/zeaxanthin supps, but Lessman's ingredients seem to fit the actual studies and information on absorption best.
Listened to Lessman's explanations at midnight (9 pm California time) and decided I was taking it wrong. I had thought of it as "take when you are eating unhealthy. sugary foods) but his explanations made sense: only 2 a day, he suggested, but one each with a meal; if you're a snacker, a snack can count as a meal.
Always learn something from Lessman's explanations.
First time last night I heard him say he advises people to start with 2 a day on the biotin/healthy hair, then after a couple of months 1 a day is enough. So, I'm winding down my 2 a day on those, and as he said last night, they will last you longer and do as well.
TIPS/SCIENCE?
Still missing great advice (based on some science!) on HOW TO TAKE supplememts. (Many docs, in my health care org for example, are discouraged from suggesting supplememts.)
Some supps say take with meals.
What about the others: better with meals or doesn't matter?
Friends, for convenience, take many in the morning—but is that harder for our bodies to effectively absorb? Space throughout the day, if you can manage that?
Once we hit age 50+ many of us are taking more, as our bodies stop producing or start needing more of SOME things.
Share your tips/information about taking supplements!
New studies this week that taking a MULTIVITAMIN is not as necessary as advertised. Great review, easy to find, JohnsHopkins Medicine, "Is there really any benefit to multivitamins?"
I take several other Lessman supps, including coQ10, phytoceramides for skin. Re-read the Lessman Essential 1 label: it includes lots I'm already taking (biotin, eye care, for example). Thinking of stopping the Essential 1. Thoughts?

I don't have advice, @1Professor , just want to share my experience with the Essential 1. I have taken it for many years. I ran out once and waited to order knowing that his TSV was coming up. Within a week I could not believe how run down I felt. It is one of the few supplements that I take (and that is many) that I can actually feel a difference. I would never be without it.
I divide my supplements up throughout the day. This is due to the fact I take many. I make them up in little cups a month in advance. This works for me. I wouldn't open up that many bottles everyday to take.
BTW my PCP knows what all I take and approves and will once in awhile tweak it. For instance, I take strontium for bone loss. That is to be taken separate from the calcium I take.
I also take a hair supplement and an eye support. I get them from Vitacost. I listened to Andrew years ago about these products, learned, tried his, and then found something less expensive. I do, however, take many of his products.

AL is not a doctor or in anyway qualified to speak about medical issues. His use of the word " support " is a CYA term.

I've only tried a couple of his offerings. They did notthing for me. Glad for those who have had success with his products.

While I agree that Andrews is not a doctor, he does a lot of research before putting out a product. He knows more, when it comes to suplements, than most doctors that are prescribing prescription drugs. Their education on these drugs comes from the drug reps that roll in the big carts of food for lunch and a mini 10 minute push on prescribing their drug of the day. I have seen this first hand. Having to wait for a doctor appointment (oncologist) while the staff is eating and putting the appointments for the day behind is beyond rude.
Andrew will wait until he has all the data before putting out a product. I heard him say last time that it took 2 years before he was satisfied about finally offering a particular supplement. He takes his products. He isn't just slapping his name on a product made by someone else. He has devoted his life to researching and making the best possible products.
I have no idea what CYA term means. It is obvious you don't like him because you post negativity everytime he is on. Okay, that is your opinion. Don't buy his product. Pretty simple solution.
Like religion and politics, you aren't going to change anyone's mind.

It's a forum. For different points of view.

@tends2dogs [love your handle]
So useful, just the sort of thing I was wondering, appreciated.
In my areas of scholarship, I have some expertise, but more importantly am well-trained in method, variables, limitations. So I ask questions and go on line.
I have been surprised at the number of PCP's who know little about specific conditions and automatifcally prescribe something thkat one would take for the rest of their lives. In talking with them, they simply havent read the studies, don't know alternatives, are on "automatic" when it comes to prescriptions. Some medical doctors are great, many are uninformed. "My doctor said" has never been enough for me. I never argue with docs, don't criticize, just do some checking. Read stuff from top medical sites.
I'm generally a compliant medical patient, but look things up to see what's new, what's being questioned.
The problem with prescriptions (life-long) is that sooner or later we have both habituation and interaction effects.
Our bodies STOP responding as well, habituation.
Two different prescriptions affect one another.
*** So, for me, I will delay any prescription life-long type -- as long as I can get my blood work #s down in other ways.

I have taken a number of Lessman Supplements for years, and my DH has as well.
True, Lessman is not an MD. But the MDs I have had in my lifetime have not been educated in the value of vitamins and minerals that have helped people for so many years. Lessman has searched the world for more natural solutions.
Our doctors know what we are taking. Macular degeneration runs in both of our families, and we have so far avoided it. Years back, my blood sugar was higher than I liked. And I was eating what I thought was a healthy diet. Well, it lowered and has stayed that way for years thanks to a particular type of cinnamon. I could go on.
Nothing is the magic bullet for health. Vitamins and minerals will not fix every problem. I try to buy these products on sale and stock up, but still not cheap. It is a personal decision.
