@Noel7  I hope you feel better and don't have a serious issue with your thyroid.  If you do it's pretty easily controlled, or at least it is in my case.  I had to have my thyroid removed about 15 years ago.  Now I take levothyroxine, which is a generic for Synthroid.  After the initial testing to get the dosage regulated, it's been steady ever since.  If you don't take the medicine you will have a large weight gain according to my doctor.  I had to have another thyroid scan a few years ago, but nothing was found.

@NickNack

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the information you've shared.  It helps put me at ease.  And thank God your latest scan found nothing!

Re: Thyroid Testing Yesterday 12/29

I know I would have felt the same way, @Noel7... But take comfort in knowing you are not the only one to have had this happen. I'm sure the staff sees it daily. Just focus on your recovery ~ I hope it's the lupus nodule as you suspect. My DIL experiences those frequently with any kind of respiratory infection. She has lupus, too. You were kind enough to direct me to the website that was so helpful in better understanding this complex condition years ago. Many thanks and feel better soon. ❤️

Noel ,if they give you synthetic thyroid and it makes you sick, ask for Amour thyroid. It is the real deal, and I don't have any side effects from taking it.

It's a bit expensive ,but insurance /medicare will pay for some of it

I don't get hot flashes ,or an upset stomach ,or headaches from this thyroid

I will keep you in my prayers dear friend

Re: Thyroid Testing Yesterday 12/29

@Noel7 Thanks for the kind words.  In the scope of things it really wasn't very difficult.

My daughter had 1/2 of her thyroid removed (as I said).  The Dr told us she had in her sinus cavity and somewhere (it didn't show outward at all) a growth (non-cancerous) the size of an orange!  You couldn't see anything on her face (it was so weird).

Anyway, they only took 1/2 of it because she was 35 and the Dr thought it would be easier for her to get pregnant if she wanted to have a baby.  She will probably have to have the rest removed although right now she seems to be OK (with medicine).

I think we are all lucky to be living in a time when we can have something so vital to the body removed and take a pill to substitute it.  That's the way I look at life.

I hope you are able to find out (if any problems) and move on with your life.

Take care...Annabelle/Linda

Re: Thyroid Testing Yesterday 12/29

Wishing HOPE and HEALTH to all my Thyroid Sisters!

I want to share a few things I’ve learned about thyroid care since I was diagnosed many years ago.

For several years, I received thyroid “care” from “the best doctor in the area” who was a nasty little troll who MADE FUN OF ME, did unnecessary tests and refused to tell me why, and never responded to my questions or concerns about how terrible I was feeling.

When I finally admitted to my internist that I felt as though the troll was wasting my time, he sent me to a fine, compassionate replacement who actually HELPS ME.

Although there are actual medicines that are sometimes used in thyroid care, both Armour and levothyroxine are REPLACEMENTS for what your thyroid gland is not producing on its own. Just as diabetics sometimes need insulin, people who are hypothyroid sometimes need thyroid hormone REPLACEMENT. The amount of thyroid hormone that you need to feel well varies from patient to patient. Your “number” is a partial indicator of how much you need.

If your care plan is not explained to you by your thyroid doctor, ASK QUESTIONS UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO AND WHY.

This is is a lousy, poorly understood chronic condition, and ALL OF US deserve the best carepossible.

SO SORRY Noel that you had such a nasty experience, and major hopes that your New Year is a much better place for you.

OMG @Annabellethecat66  Your daughter went through so much.  I'm glad it's worked out ok for her.  I agree with you, we are lucky to be in this age where there's help... meds and technology.
