Sounds horrible.  If they want to jump start their diets so badly, I would think they could just drink their shakes (or whatever it is their drinking) the regular way.

Still Raining, I know MANY people who know how to "eat properly" and are still morbidly obese.

Even though I think this "diet" is extreme, cutting away a part of one's body and/or swallowing one or more balloons are extreme as well, and both are approved or in approval research by the FDA.

"Obesity" is a medical issue that has been cosmeticized by enterprising salespeople who will do ANYTHING to sell SOMETHING, and vulnerable people WILL pay for hope, however unusual, even bizarre this hope seems to people of normal weight.

People who are severely overweight are NOT that way because they like to be, or because they're unwilling to do what normal weight people tell them to do to get thin like they are, or because they're lazy or weak willed or any other of the negative attributes that are so casually attached to this very complex problem.

Some posters have noted that this seems to trivialize the needs of patients who "need" to be fed with a tube. For anyone who carries 100+ pounds, decreasing body size IS a medical necessity. Blurring the lines between "medical" and "cosmetic" only makes the problems of the morbidly obese more serious.

If you have never lived your life carrying the equivalent of a second person around with you every second, awake and sleeping, please don't attempt to oversimplify this issue.

It is complex, physically and emotionally painful, and NOT easily resolved.

In the appropriate setting with fully trained, competent bariatric medical specialists as case managers, I can see this as a treatment method that COULD be helpful to a particular group of patients. 

If if you think that's crazy talk, you've probably never been morbidly or super morbidly obese.

This is crazy. Putting in a feeding tube requires surgery. Why would anyone want that? And once you lose weight & start eating again, what have you learned? Some things Dr Oz recommends are kooky in my opinion.

Dr. Oz didn't say he recommends...he's just saying its 'an extreme'. Maybe when he said, "you got to see to believe' is in a way criticizing.
