This is why it's always confused me as to why Trader Joe's insists on wrapping its vegetables instead of selling them individually.

There's not only more chance of plastic contamination, but there is a lot more unnecessary waste.

(I reuse any plastic bags I might otherwise put my purchased vegetables into that I buy in other stores.)

Wasn't this study more focused on fast food places than fine dining?

@GingerPeach

I like Trader Joe's for some things, but fresh produce isn't one of them.  Unless, like this week, they have a big special of something in bulk, like the recent asparagus.   I think much of their produce is old, particularly the greens.  Not always, but often.

This is one time, I hope for the best but it would never curtail my going to restaurants. Now even my coffee is being denigrated because of some kind of toxic chemical in it. Is there any food that is really deemed healthy? Even lettuce? I just read a report claiming that the more vegetables you eat the more exposure to toxic chemicals dependent upon how it is grown. Then of course there is e coli. It never ends.

I loved getting together with family and friends over the years for dinners in a good restaurant. It was one of my finest memories that I look back on.

Hi @Trinity11  The coffee thing was a surprise to me, supposedly it's something in the roasting.

DH gets most of his coffee from a man who roasts his own.  I wonder if that makes a difference?  You know, not being large scale.

Thanks, @Noel7

I may have looked at a related article.

Did the one you read specify what sort of wrappings or containers and which foods were involved?  Or just everything?

"Some person" did not find it "somewhere".  The news has been all over and links were provided here.  As mentioned previously, there are pages and pages of reference available. @chrystaltree  It helps to read the posts available.

        I did read it and nothing in it struck me as as anything more than junk science with an agenda. The sky is falling....the sky is falling....lol

@chrystaltree

Apparently it is not junk science, and the dangers of phthlates have been known for a long time.  The news is that they are in at least some food packaging.

I agree @QueenDanceALot  I love TJoes but often the produce is on its last legs.

I do love those skinny green beans, though.  And the avocados are a lot less expensive than our supermarkets.

Starbucks is dark roasted. For myself the only one I can drink there is the Blonde Roast.

I think that chemical is in all coffee. @Noel7...I think it is just another scare tactic. Even tea can be bad for people as per my urologist. She told me to stop drinking it because it causes kidney stones. At this point, I just limit my tea consumption and coffee too. It's just too complicated. LOL

Thinking of you on your surgery next week. Let us know how you are doing.Heart

@Noel7

You probably wouldn't have met with several pages of comments from readers of the thread you started if you had cited sources in your opening post, saying only that "studies show......."

Knowing where the studies and information originate is helpful.  Thank you for eventually providing more detail.

@GingerPeach

This has been big news in the Bay Area, on local news, etc.  Googling it brings up pages of references.  I gave three, one from WebMD and one from the Public Health Dept.

The local news, I am either ABC or CBS usually, showed one that was a cylindrical container of what looked like ground beef being squeezed out.

Thanks, @Noel7

I am not watching much news this year.  It was too depressing all last year!

I didn't see any links in the original post.
