This is one time, I hope for the best but it would never curtail my going to restaurants. Now even my coffee is being denigrated because of some kind of toxic chemical in it. Is there any food that is really deemed healthy? Even lettuce? I just read a report claiming that the more vegetables you eat the more exposure to toxic chemicals dependent upon how it is grown. Then of course there is e coli. It never ends.
I loved getting together with family and friends over the years for dinners in a good restaurant. It was one of my finest memories that I look back on.
Hi @Trinity11 The coffee thing was a surprise to me, supposedly it's something in the roasting.
DH gets most of his coffee from a man who roasts his own. I wonder if that makes a difference? You know, not being large scale.
Starbucks is dark roasted. For myself the only one I can drink there is the Blonde Roast.
I think that chemical is in all coffee. @Noel7...I think it is just another scare tactic. Even tea can be bad for people as per my urologist. She told me to stop drinking it because it causes kidney stones. At this point, I just limit my tea consumption and coffee too. It's just too complicated. LOL
Thinking of you on your surgery next week. Let us know how you are doing.
Oh, thank you @Trinity11 They moved it up to later in April, the surgeon will be at a convention for awhile. The "attack" remains ongoing. Soft food is not preventing mouth sores.
FYI, did anyone suggest cranberry juice for you? The litho nurses encouraged me to drink that. I haven't in awhile, but I think there is one without added sugar.

"Some person" did not find it "somewhere". The news has been all over and links were provided here. As mentioned previously, there are pages and pages of reference available. @chrystaltree It helps to read the posts available.
I did read it and nothing in it struck me as as anything more than junk science with an agenda. The sky is falling....the sky is falling....lol
Apparently it is not junk science, and the dangers of phthlates have been known for a long time. The news is that they are in at least some food packaging.
We're all going to die of something someday...lol You know that right? No one gets out of here alive. So, relax. Stop tilting at windmills.
No, I did not know we were all going to die, shocking @chrystaltree
This isn't tilting at windmills, as Don Quixote would tell you. Maybe science doesn't interest you, but there are people who are at least somewhat interested and understand the issue. Those who don't aren't being forced to join this line.

@chrystaltree... I think Noel was just trying to bring some light to the subject. A lot of us are older here and probably are less worried about it but our next generation and our grandchildren? It is probably just one more reason to try and eat at home cooking and ask for reform. No harm done....

It should be an easy fix, I would hope. It's just information, care about it or not. I'm not worried, @Trinity11 is correct, it's the next generation we care about.

It appears that whenever there is handling of food on a large scale, processing and storage included, then the possibility of any kind of contamination becomes a real problem. The fewer the steps from farm to table seems to produce the least amount of contaminated food. Unfortunately restaurant businesses have to store large amounts of food inside plastic containers and before that they buy their food from companies that also store large quantities in plastics. The problem becomes compounded.

In today's world, we all choose what we are going to be afraid of and worry about. And for ALL of us that means different things and different science and studies we chose to focus on and worry about.
You can stress about non-organic fruits, all plant based diets, red meat, nuclear war, self-driving cars, climate change, politics, or chemicals in your clothing. There are a thousand things and new ones every day. So let's ALL live and let live and understand that some of us are afraid to go to the grocery store and some are afraid to eat in a restarant.
We ALL make our choices and thanks to all who post information for us to evaluate for ourselves and our lifestyle choices.

We hardly EVER eat out. Can't think of the last time we ate at a restaurant.

According to the rather condescending tone of this thread, we all need to figure out how much toxic stuff we're getting from restaurant food as opposed to packaged food products we're purchasing from other sources and/or cooking in our own homes.
I don't think the studies cited answer this question very well. Nice food for thought, for now, but not much else.
Which food source (grocery stores or restaurants) should we boycott or avoid?
As I said in an earlier post......Welcome to life in an advanced society in the 21st century.
Despite any chemical taints in our food supply, we eat pretty well in the U.S; in contrast to the starving and disadvantaged folks in other parts of the world who don't have clean water, do have famine, and have such unbalanced diets that we wouldn't even recognize their food as food, or be able to live past the age of 30 or 40 and raise healthy children.
I feel lucky. I can't get scared about too much when it comes to our food supply. For future generations..........dunno what the future brings, might get worse, hope it gets better. They will figure it out and make do, just as we have.

Though I do enjoy eating out once in a while, during flu season I really stay away from eating out, including fast foods. So many of eatery employees earn such low wages and do not have much - or any - sick leave. I have known of several who go to work very sick because they won't get paid if not present. Not to say that one cannot get ill any time of the year, but I just feel safer eating at home during these sickness months....
