fell back and right away felt the pain in my tailbone .   At my hair salon was paying my stylist and felt dizzy and just fell back thank God there was one of those thick rubber like runners , but still it was a hard fall right on my bum then fell completely all the way down.    My tail bone today is very painful hard to sit especially .   Tried one of those donuts to sit on only made it worse .   Standing and walking feels the best .  My DH is taking good care of me, cooking etc.   Trying to get comfortable on my lazy boy not easy though .

will call my primary Monday and see if I can go for an X-ray.  Hoping it's just a deep bruise and not a fracture .   Bruised and turned black and blue almost immediately.  I don't bruise easy usually.   Has anyone had a tail bone injury ,  if so how long did it take to heal ?

Re: Tailbone pain after fall

@Kitty Galore, that does sound so painful and I know it is. I did smack mine standing up and hitting it on the corner of a cabinet. It hurt to sit for quite a while. Every injury is different and I hope yours will be a bruise that heals quickly.

I was surprised how long mine lasted and I don't want to be discouraging but mine hurt for over a year-maybe 2

and still sore a while after that!

Ever since that I have to sit on something soft. Maybe it is an especially vulerable bone.

To be honest I would be more concerned with why I felt dizzy enough to fall.

@Kitty Galore

OMG yes!

I also fell (not recently) and injured my tailbone and the ONLY comfortable position for me was standing, leaning on the back of a recliner, during the day and sleeping on my tummy at night (after a painful effort to get in the bed, to lay on my stomach).

I called my Ortho and he said that there's really no medical intervention, the pain/injury just needs time to heal.

But that was a rough one, hope you feel better soon!

ETA: It took several weeks before I could walk without looking like I had a stick up 'you know where' and could find more comfortable positions.

Re: Tailbone pain after fall

My sister fell when she stood in a canoe and it moved.  I don't remember if she actually broke her tailbone but it pained her for yearsyears.  Took a long time for her to recover but she did eventually.

@Kachina624,

that was my experience too in terms of how long.

You should go to Urgent Care.

Re: Tailbone pain after fall

Yes I did when I was in my late 20's.

Fell down 20 stairs backwards, all the way down.

Went to the ER and they said fractured, 2 weeks bed rest ,except to make it to the bathroom.

Third week, I made it to pt for ultra sound , ahhh that felt so good but every other day was a bit hard on the body..

Like another poster stated, everyone is different, I hope your injury is much less stressful than what I had,

However as you get older, you will feel it, as it creeps up on you...

Wish you well and a speedy recovery.
