It as taken since Oct 1 to get my shot approved by insurance, it has taken over a week to get Caremark to process it.

I got a cal from the Drs coordinator at 5pm today, my cost for this will be $385.00 wow I was floored by that

@I am still oxox  Are you on medicare?  Is that price for one knee or two?  I need to have injections in both knees.  I have a Medicare Advantage plan.  If I have to pay that much I won't be able to do it.  I'm sure you were shocked.

@NickNack

I have private insurance I am not a Senior. that is the price for one knee.

This journey is getting more and my annoying, I was now told by my insurance that no approval was needed but the doctors office is telling me something different. This process has been going on since October 9

Thanks for your reply @I am still oxox.  I am sure you're extremely frustrated at this point.

Gel or cortisone, I thought they will not do the gel injections very often

My ortho is one of my husband's partners.  He does gel shots every 6 months and steroid every 3.  Many time frames are dictated by insurance.

@NickNack

I am on Medicare (not Advantage) and my only cost is a $15 co-pay. (my secondary insurance)  I did not need pre-approval.

@lulu2  That's good to know.  I guess I'll find out about mine on Nov. 8th.  That's when my appt. with the orthopedic surgeon is.

I still can not figure out why it took from Oct 9 till today to get the thing approved. I spoke to my insurance company they say they never received anything for approval, and Caremark has the same thing, yet the doctors office says they started this whole process in early October

That's very strange @I am still oxox.  I'm glad it was finally approved.  Another frustrating thing for me is that after the injections you have to wait a month to see if they're going to work.

@I am still oxox  When I looked up the injections, I read that they don't start working for a month.  Then they will last up to six months.  I will find it hard to wait for a month to see if they will work for me.  I'll be interested to discuss this more with my doctor when I see him on the 8th.
