There was a thread yesterday about this on View Points. There are a number of posters that did it.

Thanx for the info. I read on Amazon that a lot of people use the coconut oil. Didn't know about the sesame oil - guess I'll go with that if it tastes better. Don't think I can handle 2 tbls of oil, I'll have to build up. Muttmom, thanx for the tip on viewpoints - will have o go there. Sounds yucky, but if it works, it's worth a try!

1 TBL oil, not 2

I have not tried it yet, but have bought some of the correct sesame oil & plan to start tomorrow

does anyone do it more than once a day?

They say only do it once a day in a.m. upon awakening, then brush teeth afterward. Let me know how it works for you. I'm gonna search Amazon for the oil.

I read that it's supposed to remove plaque. It would be so nice if that were true. Anyone know for sure? - Bird

You can do oil pulling any time of day & more than once a day is fine - but not really necessary. I usually only do it once per day and usually in the evening.

Bird, oil pulling has removed built-up plaque from my teeth. It is amazing! I tend to get buildup on the backs of my lower front teeth despite all my attempts to prevent it. Regular oil pulling removes it. If I would stick with it I would never have any to remove but I tend to do it in spurts.

Google ""oil pulling benefits"" or something similar & you'll get a long list.

Most people do oil pulling for the teeth whitening benefits. It is supposed to help with tooth ache pain and general health - a lot more than just oral health.

They had a piece on Good Morning America about oil pulling .... and their reporter swished for 20 minutes ... said she'd never do it again.

BTW ........ there's a website Oilpulling dot com.

Most of the oil pullers that I run into in my dental office would rather swish oil for 20 minutes than floss for 2 minutes.Makes alot of sense huh? BTW..most of us in dentistry have seen poor results for oil pulling. Most of the oil pullers that we encounter are the ones that have poor oral hygiene to begin with and are looking for anything they can do rather than meticulously brush and floss. This is my experience only..and that of my co workers.

Gubby1, flossing & oil pulling are very different. I can't imagine people picking one over the other. That is not really what it is about, IMO.

Most of the people I know who do oil pulling have pretty good habits & just started pulling for the teeth whitening benefits. I never heard a single person ask if they could do oil pulling instead of something else, like flossing or brushing. I tried it because it sounded very weird yet I kept hearing rave reviews. I've always had good teeth & pretty white ones at that. But don't we all want better than what we have?

Oh, I do not consider swishing the same as pulling. To me, they are different. I would not "swish" oil. I don't think that would accomplish much, if anything.
